Top NBA Betting Pick for Sunday, September 20th

The NBA playoffs have been quite the treat. The Denver Nuggets scratched and clawed their ways to the Western Conference Finals, but their ability to match up with the Los Angeles Lakers now faces more questions after their Game 1 loss. The Boston Celtics bounced back from being down 2-0, to make it a series and now trail 2-1 after a Game 3 victory. The hope is that Denver can make it a series and give us two competitive Conference Finals, but they have struggled against Anthony Davis all year, so we are in a holding pattern as far as being able to determine if we should be preparing the brooms. As expected, the Conference Finals have been a disaster for our percentages. We are on our worst streak of the five straight ‘L’s’, and now sit 32-25 on the postseason after picking up a stunning 0-2 doughnut on Tuesday

Anthony Davis over 27.5 points (-115)

  • Averaged 26.1 points per game during the regular season
  • Averaged 29.3 points per game versus Denver in four games during the regular season
  • Averaging 28.5 points per game during playoffs
  • 37 points in Game 1
  • Over in two of his last three contests
  • Over in three of his last five contests

The push for Anthony Davis to get ready for the NBA Finals is on. Davis exploded for 37 points in Game 1, his highest total since the first round against Portland. LeBron James seems to be making a concerted effort to get his big man ready for the NBA Finals, as he will be needed to help the Lakers to complete their mission and win the NBA Championship. With Dwight Howard freed from the bench, Anthony Davis is allowed, for about 20 to 25 minutes per game (the combined minutes for Howard and JaVale McGee) to switch to his natural (and preferred) power forward position.

Denver has no one at the four to deal with Davis. They have a hard enough time with him at the five. If Anthony Davis wants to score 28 points in Game 2, only sub .400 shooting from the field could stop him. Davis averaged 26.1 points per game during the season but was on another level against Denver averaging a truly elite 29.3 points per contest.

He has been excellent in the playoffs and is averaging 28.5 points per game. He shows no signs of slowing down, and if LeBron lets him, he can take home the NBA Finals MVP. The 27.5 number is higher than one would like for Davis, but after scoring 37 points in Game 1, and hitting 28 or more points in two of his last three contests, and three of his last five, the over is the play at BetMGM

Pick: Over 27.5 points (-115)
