Top NBA Betting Picks for Friday, January 29

The Clippers got an upset win over the Heat last night on a relatively low-scoring four-game slate. Fortunately for over bettors, tonight promises some offensive fireworks — we have three games with totals at or above 230.

Here are the top NBA betting plays for Friday, January 29, provided by BettingPros experts James Bisson, Raju Byfield, and Isaiah Sirois (Main game odds courtesy BettingPros Consensus; lock and prop odds sites may vary):

Betting Locks of the Day

Bisson: Jazz -4 (-115 at FD Sportsbook)

It takes guts to bet against a team that has rolled to a 10-0 SU and ATS record over its previous 10 games – but while this run is sure to come to an end at some point, it isn’t happening Friday. Utah rolled over the Mavericks two days ago despite being without Donovan Mitchell, and with everything working on both sides of the basketball, it’s hard to envision Utah not covering a four-point spread at home.

Sirois: Magic -3.5 (-110 at FD Sportsbook)

The LA Clippers will continue to play without superstars Paul George and Kawhi Leonard tonight, and they’re on the wrong side of a back-to-back following a win over the Miami Heat. While they may have some momentum right now, the Clippers needed 30-year-old Reggie Jackson to play 37 minutes, and I would be surprised if he gets that much run tonight. The Clippers just don’t have the depth required to pull off back-to-back wins here, and I expect the Magic to get the better of them tonight.

Best Team Props of the Day

Bisson: Thunder Over 110.5 (-120 at FD Sportsbook)

It’s no surprise that the juice on OKC’s team total is heavier on the over. The Thunder are looking like a much more cohesive team on the offensive end, scoring 125 points in a win in Portland before shooting 40 percent from three-point range in an impressive victory in Phoenix. Brooklyn is one of the worst defensive teams in the league, and they’ll be playing just their second game outside the Eastern Time Zone. I like the Thunder to put up some points in this spot.

Sirois: Nuggets First Quarter -1.5 (-108 at FD Sportsbook)

The Nuggets rank second in points per first quarter (30.9), and they rank 12th in points allowed per first quarter (27.2). They most recently allowed the Miami Heat to score a paltry 12 first-quarter points. They’ll take on the slow-starting San Antonio Spurs this evening, and Gregg Popovich’s team ranks 20th in first-quarter scoring (27.4) and 25th in first-quarter points allowed (29.8).

Best Player Props of the Day

Bisson: Kristaps Porzingis Under 19.5 Points (+100 at FD Sportsbook)

While he came close to surpassing this point prop in Wednesday’s first showdown in Utah, he needed 18 shots to score 18 points and didn’t get to the free-throw line. Utah boasts the second-best defense in the NBA against power forwards, and the return of Josh Richardson should cut into Porzingis’s usage rate moving forward. At these odds, I’ll take my chances on the Jazz keeping KP from getting to 20 for a second-straight game.

Sirois: Donte DiVincenzo Over 1.5 Three-Pointers (-160 at FD Sportsbook)

The New Orleans Pelicans give up the most three-pointers (15.8) and the most three-pointers to shooting guards (4.59) per game. DiVincenzo averages 1.9 three-pointers per game, but he attempts 4.8 of them on average, and the Pelicans allow opponents to make 37.8% of their shots from beyond the arc, the ninth-highest percentage in the NBA. DiVincenzo should easily hit the over as long as he attempts five shots from deep.
