Top NBA Betting Picks for Monday, January 25

The Hornets and Magic will face off again tonight, just one day after Charlotte’s Gordon Hayward sunk an impressive game-winner with less than a second on the clock. We should be in for another exciting duel in Central Florida tonight, and we’ll get nine other games to watch, too.

Here are the top NBA betting plays for Monday, January 25, provided by BettingPros experts James Bisson, Isaiah Sirois, and Vaughn Dalzell (Main game odds courtesy BettingPros Consensus; lock and prop odds sites may vary):

Betting Locks of the Day

Bisson: Heat-Nets Over 235.5 (-115 at FD Sportsbook)

The Nets aren’t the least bit interested in playing defense, and they will once again match up with a Miami Heat team that’s missing one of the league’s best defenders in Jimmy Butler. These teams combined for 252 points in Saturday’s showdown and would have soared past 260 had Miami shot better than 28.3 percent from three-point range. This might be a huge total, but I’m firmly on the over.

Sirois: T’Wolves +8.5 (-106 at FD Sportsbook)

I don’t have a ton of faith in the Timberwolves, but I have even less faith in the Warriors. They’re on a two-game losing skid after double-digit losses to the Knicks and Jazz. Their defense gives up the seventh-most points per game (115.1), and they’ve won just four games by at least a nine-point margin. The T’Wolves aren’t good, but these are two inefficient teams, and my efficiency-based model projects Golden State for a three-to-one point win — a far cry from this 8.5-point spread. All of that said, it’ll be hard to play this line if D’Angelo Russell can’t play through his questionable tag.

Best Team Props of the Day

Bisson: Cavaliers Under 100.5 (-102 at FD Sportsbook)

This Cleveland team … I mean, come on. Here are the Cavaliers’ scoring outputs over the past 13 games: 86, 99, 96, 83, 94, 94, 90, 91, 87, 106, 147, 126, 103. Two of those games came against the Nets (you probably know which ones); take those out of the equation, and the Cavs have scored 100-plus points just twice — and the most recent of those came in a 38-point blowout loss to a Boston team that took pity on Cleveland in the latter stages. There’s no way the Cavs reach triple digits against a fully-loaded Lakers team.

Sirois: Pelicans First Quarter -0.5 (-115 at FD Sportsbook)

The Pelicans score the eighth-most first-quarter points per game (29.5) and allow the sixth-fewest (26.2). Meanwhile, Gregg Popovich’s squad boasts unremarkable first-quarter stats; they rank 11th-worst in points scored (27.6) and eighth-worst in points allowed (29.8). San Antonio only scored 23 first-quarter points against the Washington Wizards last night, losing the frame by three points, despite the Wizards not having played in two weeks. Sure, San Antonio ended up winning by 20 points, but that’s certainly not because they got off to a good start. Expect them to start the back half of their back-to-back off slowly, too.

Best Player Props of the Day

Bisson: Luka Doncic Over 27.5 Points (-106 at FD Sportsbook)

When things feel easy, you should take a step back and ask yourself why. But I’ve spent a while on this one, and I can’t figure out why this prop is so low. Yes, I’ll gladly take a chance on a rested Doncic scoring one point over his season scoring average against a Nuggets team that ranks 22nd in defensive efficiency (and whom he torched for 38 points in their previous meeting). Even with Kristaps Porzingis back, the Mavs’ nightly hopes of victory rest on Doncic’s shoulders – and the conditions are ideal for him to erupt at home Monday.

Sirois: Jerami Grant Over 5.5 Rebounds (-106 at FD Sportsbook)

If you’ve frequented this column, you know that Jerami Grant’s props have been popular among the four of us. While I usually play his points, I’ll target his boards tonight. Grant is averaging 6.4 rebounds per game, almost a full board above this line, and the Sixers give up the 11th-most rebounds to small forwards. Grant notched nine boards against Philadelphia on Saturday, too, and he’s hit the over in all but one of his last five appearances.
