Top NBA Betting Picks for Sunday, January 24

Basketball might be taking a backseat to the NFL’s Conference Championships this evening, but we’ve got some interesting matchups nonetheless. The Washington Wizards will return to action for the first time since January 11, and we’ll get to see what should be a high-scoring battle between the Bucks and Hawks.

Here are the top NBA betting plays for Sunday, January 24, provided by BettingPros experts Raju Byfield, Isaiah Sirois, and Vaughn Dalzell (Main game odds courtesy BettingPros Consensus; lock and prop odds sites may vary):

Betting Locks of the Day

Sirois: Hornets +1 (-110 at FD Sportsbook)

I’ll take the Hornets plus the points tonight. Charlotte may rank last in points per game (102.9), but they’ve scored the fifth-most over their last three games (118.3); in contrast, Orlando ranks seventh-worst in points per game (107.3), and they sit mid-pack over their last three (105.7). Defensively, the Hornets give up the 10th-fewest points per game (109.1) to the Magic’s 13th-fewest (110.4). I like the Hornets because of their strong recent form on offense. My efficiency-based model likes them too, and it projects Charlotte for a two-point win.

Best Team Props of the Day

Sirois: Bucks First Quarter -2.5 (-120 at FD Sportsbook)

I’ll keep riding Milwaukee in the first quarter. They score the second-most first-quarter points per game (31.3) and allow the third-fewest (25.4), giving them a 5.9-point average margin of victory. The Hawks aren’t a bad first quarter team, as they score the fifth-most first-quarter points (29.9), but they also allow the 15th-most (28.1). The spread is a little wide for me here, but there’s almost no value on the first-quarter moneyline (-210), so I’ll bet on another hot start for Milwaukee by taking this line.

Best Player Props of the Day

Sirois: LaMelo Ball Over 10.5 Points (-110 at FD Sportsbook)

LaMelo Ball averages 11.5 points per game. The Orlando Magic give up the third-most points per game to opposing point guards (26.3) and the 10th-most points per game to opposing shooting guards (23.5), the two spots where Ball splits his time, and I think he’ll have no problem clearing this total tonight.
