Top NBA Betting Picks for Tuesday, January 12

We have a six-game slate tonight — as long as the Miami Heat have enough healthy players to compete. Let’s hope for the best — and target the under!

Here are the top NBA betting plays for Tuesday, January 12, provided by BettingPros experts James Bisson, Raju Byfield, and Isaiah Sirois (Main game odds courtesy BettingPros Consensus; lock and prop odds sites may vary):

Betting Locks of the Day

Bisson: Sixers -7 (-110 at FD Sportsbook)

Getting blown out by the Hawks a night earlier actually worked out great for the Sixers, who were able to give center Joel Embiid the entire fourth quarter off. That should have him fresh and ready to dominate a Miami team with only eight healthy bodies – and mediocre ones, at that. Point guard Ben Simmons is expected to return, too, which should cinch the cover for the hosts.

Sirois: Cavaliers +10.5 (-110 at FD Sportsbook)

The Utah Jazz and Cleveland Cavaliers are two of the league’s lowest-scoring teams. The Jazz average 109.5 points per game to the Cavs’ 100, and both of their offenses have been even less productive in recent days — Cleveland just scored 91 points in their last appearance to Utah’s 96. The Cavs are also first in defensive efficiency, and both teams are bottom-five in possessions per game. As such, it’s surprising to see the Jazz favored by double-digit points — there won’t be a lot of scoring tonight, and while I think that Utah will win, I doubt that they’ll score enough to cover. Let’s just hope that Andre Drummond plays.

Best Team Props of the Day

Bisson: Jazz Under 108.5 Points (-110 at FD Sportsbook)

The Jazz have settled into a bit of a hum-drum offensive existence, ranking in the middle of the pack in offensive efficiency and 23rd in pace. And while the Cavaliers have the league’s worst offensive efficiency rate, they’re also leaders in defensive efficiency thanks to the league’s third-slowest pace. We could see both teams finish in double digits here.

Sirois: Jazz Under 108.5 Points (-110 at FD Sportsbook)

This under is 5-2 in Utah’s last seven games, and while the Jazz have averaged 107.7 points per game through that span, two 130-plus point showings against the Spurs and Bucks inflate that average. This line requires the Jazz to beat their recent averages against the league’s most efficient defense, and I just don’t think that’ll happen. The Cavs give up just 102.8 points per game, and only two teams have scored 109-plus points against them in regulation all year. Just like the spread, this total is too high, and I’m betting against the Jazz tonight.

Best Player Props of the Day

Bisson: Steph Curry Over 29.5 Points (+100 at FD Sportsbook)

It’s really quite simple: Curry is a threat to score 30+ against any team on any given night. And conditions are ripe for an offensive breakout against a Pacers team with a below-average defense coming off a hard-fought loss in Sacramento on Tuesday. This should be a high-scoring game, and that suits Curry just fine.

Sirois: Patty Mills Under 3.5 Three-Pointers (-174 at FD Sportsbook)

I’ll admit it — this line is juicy. But it’s almost guaranteed to hit. Why? The Oklahoma City Thunder give up the fewest three-pointers per game (10.6). Meanwhile, Patty Mills averages 3.2 three-pointers per game. That means he’ll have to have an above-average night from deep against the team that gives up the fewest points from deep per game! Mills has only cleared this total in three of his 10 appearances, too, so I’m siding against him tonight.
