Top NBA Betting Picks for Wednesday, March 17

The Portland Trail Blazers graced us with a thrilling late-game comeback last night, but unfortunately for bettors, it wasn’t enough for them to cover the spread. We have another action-packed slate on tap for tonight, and our experts are here to give you their NBA betting leans and locks.

Here are the top NBA betting plays for Wednesday, March 17, provided by BettingPros experts Raju Byfield and Isaiah Sirois (Main game odds courtesy BettingPros Consensus; lock and prop odds sites may vary):

Betting Lock of the Day

Sirois: Nuggets and Hornets Over 228 (-110 at FD Sportsbook)
I don’t usually target totals with my locks of the day, but today’s matchup between the Hornets and Nuggets is just too juicy not to touch. Both squads have high over percentages: Denver’s (61.5%) ranks fourth, and Charlotte’s (54%) ranks 12th. While Denver’s percentage dips slightly when they play at home (61.1%), it’s still above 50%. However, the main reason why I’m targeting this play is Charlotte’s over percentage when playing on the road. That number sits at 77.8%, as 14 of their 18 road matchups have gone over. That rises to 80% when they play as road underdogs. Oh, and this total sits below what these teams average on a per-game basis (228.1).

Top Team Prop of the Day

Sirois: Mavericks Under 112.5 (-110 at FD Sportsbook)
The Mavericks scored 99 points against the Clippers when these teams played on Monday, so why is this total so darn high? These teams both play at incredibly slow paces, as they both rank in the NBA’s bottom-five, and their last game featured only 91.8 possessions! While that number may tick up tonight, the Mavericks average only 111.6 points per game, and the Clippers allow just 109.7 points per game. Again, Dallas may score more points than they did on Monday, but I doubt that it’ll be enough for them to go over this total. They have surpassed it just once in their last five games against the Clippers (dating back to last season), and the one time they did, Kawhi Leonard was out.

Top Player Prop of the Day

Sirois: Richaun Holmes Over 27.5 Points and Rebounds (-113 at FD Sportsbook)
With Marvin Bagley and Hassan Whiteside out for the Kings, Sacramento will need to lean on Richaun Holmes to beat the Wizards. Since the All-Star Break, he has gone over this total in every game, recording totals of 32, 32, and 31. Sure, his opponents weren’t particularly great, but it’s not like the Wizards are any better. They allow the third-most points to centers (24.8) and the most rebounds (16.7). At that rate on a per-minute basis, Holmes would need to play just over a half-hour to go over, and he has done that in each of his last three outings. Look for Holmes to anchor Sacramento’s production in this high-scoring battle — the total sits at a sky-high 247!
