Anaheim Ducks (+130) vs. New York Islanders (-150), o/u 5.5

The Pacific Division’s sixth-place Anaheim Ducks travel to New York to take on the Metropolitan Division’s sixth-place Islanders. This is the second meeting between these two teams this season as the Islanders won the first matchup 4-0 a few weeks ago.

Ilya Sorokin shut out the Ducks in that matchup and is the projected starter in this matchup as well. Sorokin has been lights out at home this season when priced as the favorite as he is 7-1 over his last eight starts in those circumstances.

This trend is not a shock as Sorokin really elevates his play at UBS Arena, a place where his save percentage jumps up to an outstanding 0.937 save percentage. Not only does Sorokin’s performance improve on home ice, but the entire team has found success this season at home.

When priced as a home favorite, the Islanders are 9-3 over their last 12 games. The opposite trend rings true for the Ducks, who are just 2-9 over their last 11 road games when priced as an underdog.

John Gibson is the projected starter for Anaheim and has been awful since the all-star break. In his nine starts following the break, Gibson is just 2-7 with an atrocious 0.837 save percentage and a 4.33 goals allowed average.

Sorokin shut out the Ducks last time out, which was on the road, and I imagine he will find similar success in this matchup as he returns to home ice.

Best Bet: New York Islanders ML (-150)

Winnipeg Jets (+130) vs. St. Louis Blues (-150), o/u 6

We have a Central Division tilt as the sixth-place Winnipeg Jets travel to St. Louis to take on the second-place Blues. This is the fourth meeting between these two teams as the Jets have won two of the first three games.

I like another home favorite tonight as I think the Blues will get their revenge against the Jets. The Jets have now lost 11 of their last 14 road games when priced as an underdog, while the Blues are an incredible 14-4 over their last 18 home games when priced as a favorite.

The projected starting goaltender for Winnipeg is Connor Hellebuyck, who has struggled away from home this season. Hellebuyck is just 1-10 in his last 11 starts when priced as an underdog on the road.

Hellebuyck’s play has continued to slide recently as he has a troubling 0.866 save percentage and a 4.33 goals allowed average over his last six starts. However, all of the blame can not be on Hellebuyck as the Jets’ blue line gives up many high danger chances every night.

This season, the Jets rank 26th in five-on-five expected goals against per 60 minutes (xGA). St. Louis should be able to take advantage of Winnipeg’s poor defense with an offense that has caught fire recently.

Over the Blues’ last 10 games, they are averaging a quality 3.9 goals scored per game. The offensive fire-power of St. Louis should propel them in a good revenge spot against a division foe.

Best Bet: St. Louis Blues ML (-150)

Best of luck tonight!
