Betting the GIFT (Goal In First Ten) is simple. Pick whether or not a game will have a goal scored in the first 10 minutes of play (00:00-09:59). It's that easy and all you have to do is root for anyone to score and you win. It is one area of hockey betting that has a nearly league-wide positive success rate with 93.75% of the league currently cashing at 50% or better this season. I have been able to use this season’s GIFT numbers to pick winners with extreme accuracy.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Minnesota Wild

Pittsburgh has cashed GIFTs at a 63% (30-of-47) rate overall, good for 19h in the NHL, and their road strike rate dips a little but remains around the overall league average of 56%. GIFTs away from PPG Paints Arena account for 13 of their 30 GIFTs overall. The Pens have cashed in seven of their last ten and four of their last five road games.

Minnesota’s season GIFT rate of 68% (34-of-50) is 3rd in the NHL behind only Ottawa (70%) and Tampa Bay (69%). That number jumps to 69% when they are within the friendly confines of Xcel Energy Arena. In fact, 18 (53%) of their 34 GIFTs have come at home this season. The Wild have cashed this prop six of their last ten overall.

Edmonton Oilers at Anaheim Ducks

The Oilers have cashed GIFTs at a 65% (34-of-49) rate overall, ranked 9th in the NHL. Additionally, they maintain that 65% clip regardless of whether they are home or away. GIFTs away from Rogers Place account for 15 of their 34 GIFTs overall. The Oilers have cashed in seven of their last 10 games overall including two of their last three on the road.

Anaheim’s season GIFT rate of 56% (28-of-50) is tied for 20th in the NHL but that is right around the aforementioned league average. That number also jumps to 69% when the Ducks are on home Honda Center ice. Anaheim has cashed in five straight contests and four of their last five home games.

Considering Anaheim is somehow hotter than a two-dollar pistol when it comes to GIFTs, and Edmonton has 55-1st period goals in 46 games. Quack Quack, Mr. GIFTsworth!
