It has been an another weird scheduling week in the NHL with a slim two-game slate on Friday, the league returned with another jam-packed 15-game docket Saturday. They are back today with a seven-game slate. I've got you covered from a sports betting angle, as I've narrowed in on a duo of best bets from the seemingly endless betting board. Here are my top NHL picks and bets for Sunday, April 5th.

Sunday's Best NHL Bets

Season: 4-2 | Last: 1-1 | Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook

Washington Capitals (-115) vs. New York Rangers (-105) | O/U 5.5 (-130/+110

Washington sits just one point out of the final Eastern Conference wild card spot with five games remaining. The rub is that one point also has them behind three other teams (four total) for that spot. Detroit, Philly, and Columbus have 88 points, like Ottawa, and four of the five teams have games today, so it could be a serious moving day for Washington. Or someone. Columbus is the only one of the five off today.

Washington has won two of their last three road games as well as three of their last five away from Capital One Arena. The Caps are 6-3 in their last nine games overall. While New York has won four of their last five games, they have long been eliminated. Washington and the 40-year0old Russian Machine that never breaks, Alex Ovechkin, need this game more and I expect a Caps dub this afternoon.

Pick: Capitals Moneyline (-125

New Jersey Devils (+130) vs. Montreal Canadiens (-155) | O/U 6.5 (-105/-115)

The Montreal Canadiens carry an eight-game winning streak home from Jersey on Sunday afternoon. The Habs have also won nine of their last 10 contests, including four straight at home. Montreal is now 23-8-8 on the road this season following their unscathed five-game road trip. As they return home today, the 22-13-2 on home ice this season.

The New Jersey Devils are winners of seven of their last 11 games themselves and are now 20-16-2 at home this season after last night’s loss to these same Habs. They are 19-19-0 on the road this season.

The Canadiens have six more wins and 20 more points than the New Jersey Devils. Despite some good recent/home metrics for the Devils, they didn’t have an answer for Montreal yesterday and today should be more of the same. There is a reason the Habs are jockeying for the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference home-ice spots, while New Jersey is on the brink of elimination, seven points out of the last wild-card spot with six games remaining.

Montreal makes it nine in a row today.

Pick: Canadiens Moneyline (-155)
