Top NHL Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (3/13)
We're fresh off of a perfect 3-0 night with last night's picks, and I'm looking to stay hot on the ice tonight! Here are my three favorite bets for tonight's four-game slate in the NHL.
Wednesday's NHL Best Bets
(Odds courtesy of BetMGM Sportsbook)
Nashville Predators (+135) vs. Winnipeg Jets (-160) | O/U 5.5 (-120/+100)
The action gets underway with a Central Division tilt between the Predators and Jets. Winnipeg's currently second in the division (87 points), while Nashville comes in at fourth in the standings (78 points). Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. ET from the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, MB.
My initial thought was that we'd get a total of 6.0 goals for this divisional matchup. I liked the Over at that number, so to get a 5.5-goal total has me pretty fired up. Both of these teams have been on a roll recently, and they're each receiving a ton of offensive contributions.
The Preds are riding a 12-game point streak, where they're 10-0-2 in their last 12 games. They're averaging 4.1 goals per game over the 12-game sample size. As for the Jets, they're 8-3-0 in their last 11 contests, putting up 3.4 goals per game during the stretch. Typically, you'd probably lean under for a matchup between these two squads, but with the offenses trending upward, I'm loving the over tonight in Winnipeg.
Bet: Over 5.5 Total Goals (-120)
Washington Capitals (+220) vs. Edmonton Oilers (-275) | O/U 6.0 (-135/+100)
The Capitals were blanked by the Jets in a 3-0 loss on Monday, and they'll make their way west to take on the Oilers tonight. Edmonton enters this contest looking for its second straight victory after beating Pittsburgh 4-0 on Sunday. This cross-conference clash is set for 10:00 p.m. ET from Rogers Place in Edmonton, AB.
We have a heavily-juiced 6.0-goal total for this game, and there are some 6.5s on the board. However, sticking with BetMGM for this piece, I'll take the flat 6.0 goals and lay the juice to the over. First off, it's always easiest to start with Edmonton's dynamic offense. They're up to fourth in the league in overall offense (3.5 GPG) and they boast the fifth-best power play (25.67%) this season.
Edmonton has still been a little shaky on the defensive end of the ice. They cleaned things up over that impressive 16-game streak, but they've regressed to the mean defensively since that streak ended. The Oilers are now ninth defensively, conceding 2.65 goals per game. Meanwhile, Washington is picking up some offensive steam after a slow start to the year. While they were blanked last time out, they're still averaging 3.9 goals per game over their last 11 contests. Eight of those 11 games have seen at least six total goals, with seven seeing at least seven tallies. Let's take the over tonight in Alberta.
Bet: Over 6.0 Total Goals (-135)
Colorado Avalanche (-110) vs. Vancouver Canucks (-110) | O/U 6.5 (-120/+100)
The night concludes with a heavyweight tilt in the Western Conference as the Avalanche (87 points) take on the Canucks (91 points). Both teams enter tonight's contest riding a four-game winning streak. This NHL nightcap is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC.
I'm not overthinking this one - give me the over! Colorado's offense is on fire right now, where they've amassed 20 goals over their current four-game win streak. That includes a 6-2 pounding of the Flames last night. The Avs boast the league's best offense (3.7 GPG) and they're seventh on the power play (24.46%).
As for Vancouver, their defense has actually tightened up over their four-game winning streak, where they've out-scored the opposition 12-3. However, this is a different beast that they're taking on tonight. In two head-to-head games, the Avs have scored eight total goals. I'd expect them to light the lamp at least three times tonight in Vancouver. As for the Canucks offense, they're still one of the best in the NHL, coming in at fifth in overall scoring (3.5 GPG) and 11th on the power play (22.97%). Let's lock in the over with these two high-octane offenses taking the ice.
Bet: Over 6.5 Total Goals (-120)
