Top Odds & Pick for 2022 LIV Golf Series: Bedminster

After a break of almost a month, LIV Golf will hold its third competition this week, this time at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. The 48-player tournament will start playing their customary 54 holes (no-cut) beginning on Friday.

The 48-player tournament will start playing their customary 54 holes (no-cut) with a shotgun start on Friday. Charles Howell III, Jason Kokrak, and Paul Casey—three of LIV’s newest high-profile additions—will make their debuts this week. Each of them provides the kind of global appeal the new league was searching for and will surely be fan favorites this week.

Let’s examine the field, the course, and my forecast for the winner of this week’s event.

Given that some of the finest players in the world have not made the transition in the time since Portland and are competing this week, this will by far be the most talented field LIV has yet to produce. LIV events are distinctive in that there is a team component compared to the PGA Tour, 12 in all, in addition to the shotgun starts and no-cut format.

And then there’s the money.

The top three teams will share $5 million, with the outright winner receiving $4 million on their own. Live streaming of the full weekend-long event is available on LIVGolf.com, Facebook, and YouTube.

Course Preview: Trump National Golf Club

This week is a long hitter’s heaven, as the par 72 Fazio-designed course measures 7,511 yards, which is significantly more than the PGA Tour average, and many wide open fairways. The 2004-opened course has hosted the US Women’s Open and was set to host the PGA Championship in 2022, but the January 6th Capitol attack forced the PGA Tour to withdraw its bid.

Trump National Golf Course, which is frequently named one of the best courses in the world, should make for an excellent weekend of streaming.

Outright Betting Pick

Abraham Ancer (+1200 on FanDuel Sportsbook)
Finishing T11 in his first official start with LIV in Portland last month, Ancer also finished T11 at The Open Championship in the time since shooting a 65 on Sunday to put himself just outside of a stellar top 10 performance.

The Open Championship also marked his fifth made cut in six weeks, and second top 15 finish in as many majors, as he finished T9 in the PGA Championship in May. While metrics are slim on LIV, it is worth noting that Ancer ranks #36 on the PGA Tour in 36th SG: Off-the-Tee, a metric that will translate excellent here at Bedminster.

With no-cut this week and a rather shallow elite-level field, expect for Ancer to be in contention come Sunday afternoon.
