Men’s Soccer, 7:00 AM EST

South Korea (+190) vs. Mexico (+230)

The quarterfinals will get underway in men’s soccer bright and early Saturday morning, and the game of most interest to me is South Korea vs. Mexico. Following a tough opening match against New Zealand where they lost, South Korea has rattled off 10 straight goals and allowed zero and are led by one of the best one-two punches in Lee Kang-In and Hwang Ui-jo.

For the Mexican side, El Tri comes into this one confident with major wins over France and South Africa and a back and forth result against Japan. Alexis Vegas and company will be looking to keep the magic going have scored in two of three games thus far.

What puts Mexico a head above in this one is a senior goalkeeper and team captain Guillermo Ochoa. Having been with the senior national team since 2005, Ochoa is a tested veteran when it comes to major competition, and I think his steady hand gets Mexico through to the semis.

Pick: Mexico +230

Men’s Basketball, 8:00 AM EST

USA vs. Czech Republic (+23.5, O/U 183)

While the trades and draft dominate the headlines back home, the USA men’s basketball team still has work to do in Japan as they enter the do-or-die time frame where they can no longer be passive. Like the Czech Republic, the USA is 1-1 in group play.

Led by Bulls swingman Tomas Satoransky, the Czech have little NBA talent but rely on their two massive big men down low in Ondrej Balvin and Jan Vesely.

Despite facing lowly Iran, Team USA seemed to spark from putting the newly-added Devin Booker and Jrue Holiday into their lineup. While France featured multiple NBA studs, including 2x Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert, the Czech have little to compete with the athletic superstars USA will be trotting out, which should be motivated to advance to the next round.

Pick: USA -23.5
