MLB Best Bets

Baltimore Orioles (+154) at New York Yankees (-184) | O/U 7.5 (-114/-106)

The Yankees are starting to play much better and have won 11 of their last 14. The offense has surged after being stagnant before, and they’ve scored 5.6 runs during this 14-game stretch as opposed to 3.4 when they went 5-9 in the previous 14. Gerrit Cole is looking to be a Cy Young contender again and is currently leading all American League pitchers with a 2.8 WAR and is second in ERA.

There’s no slowing down the Orioles, as the playoff drought could be over. They have just three series losses this year. The offense has a mix of power and patience, with the eighth-best walk percentage and ninth in extra base hit percentage. We are seeing a drastic improvement in Kyle Bradish’s sophomore season with a full run lower ERA, and he is coming in, allowing just one earned run in his last 12 innings.

Cole went 1-2 against the O’s last year and allowed nine earned in the previous two outings, and the Yankees lineup is hitting .280 with a .440 slugging. This run total is set lower than it should be.

Pick: Over 7.5 (-114)

NBA Playoffs Best Bets

Boston Celtics vs. Miami Heat

The Boston Celtics need to look in the mirror before Game 4. Not a single player on the Celtics added more than 14 points against the Heat in Game 3. Nobody had a good game. That’s essentially why the Celtics fell flat on their face.

Every game is now a must-win for the Celtics in this series. No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in the NBA Playoffs. We just watched the Denver Nuggets earn a sweep against the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals.

Meanwhile, the Heat have had so many guys step up in big moments. At times, production has been inconsistent for the Heat. But there’s always one or two role players adding incredible production in a game. On Game 3, Gabe Vincent scored 29 points on 11-for-14 from the floor in 35 minutes. Caleb Martin has averaged close to 20 points in this series after being let go by the Charlotte Hornets before the season.

The player development in the Heat organization is incredible. The Heat shot over 56% from the field against the Celtics in Game 3. This is when the Celtics needed to earn a win, on the road, against the Heat. But the Celtics had no answers. They shot under 40% from the field and hit only 26.2% of threes while attempting 42 of them in the game.

Boston had 21 offensive rebounds to Miami’s one offensive rebound. That was partly because the Heat rarely missed. But the reality is, if the Celtics can start to make their shots consistently, they’ll be OK. They’ll need to limit turnovers after giving up 15 turnovers in Game 3, but overall, it comes down to shot-making.

Eventually, the Celtics will get a bit tired down the stretch. They’ve been lackluster all series. The offense has little confidence, and the defense has no answers. However, I expect much more offense out of the Celtics in Game 4. You’d expect Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown to hit more threes after combining for one three in Game 3.

But with all that extra effort on the offensive end, the Celtics won’t be top-tier on the defensive end. Therefore, I’m going to roll with the Over 216 in this matchup.

I’m hoping we get more basketball before June 1. I’m rooting for the Celtics. But I think the Over is the best bet for the night.

Bet: Over 216 (-110)

NHL Playoffs Best Bets

Mark Stone OVER 0.5 POINTS (-140)

The Golden Knights needed two overtime games, but they are just two wins away from the Stanley Cup Finals. Although they have a 2-0 lead, these games have not been easy. Back-and-forth, physical play by both sides, and neither team has had a distinct advantage. Vegas has been getting contributions from their best players during this series. Chandler Stephenson, Jonathan Marchessault, and Mark Stone each had a goal and an assist in the last game, with Stone and Stephenson each having three points in the series.

Mark Stone is the player you want to continue to back for Vegas. There was a large difference in offensive play from when he missed time due to injury and when he returned, especially in the playoff, where he is averaging over a point per game.

WNBA Best Bets

Connecticut Sun at Washington Mystics

I know it’s one of the less exciting bets to make today, but in the early goings of the season, I usually keep it simple before early trends and data roll in.

The Mystics dominated in their season tip-off with an 80-64 win over New York which is especially promising considering Breanna Stewart was held to just 12 points, going 0-for-5 from beyond the arc.

This is a team that facilitates well and has plenty of options to go to, with four double-digit scorers in that game. Their defense seems to be trusted in the early stages, and they competed well with the Sun last time out. Now, playing at home, I fully expect them to improve on their 21 percent shooting from deep and take down a victory. Connecticut is good, though, so this final should end right around the spread, so I’m keeping it safe and simple and throwing one unit on the moneyline.

Bet: Mystics Moneyline (-200)
