Two Favorites, Two Sleepers To Bet For 2019 COPA America

The 2019 COPA America is set to begin in Brazil on June 14th with the tournament set to take place across five different cities in the South American country. It should be no surprise that Brazil is the favorite to win based on their star power and home-field advantage. However, Tite’s squad will have its work cut out for them beginning with one of their biggest rivals in Argentina.

Historically, this had been a “by-the-book” tournament as Brazil and Argentina won seven of the nine tournaments from 1989 to 2007 but more recently, there has been more diversity. Chile is the back-to-back defending champion and Uruguay won in 2011. Who’ll take the crown in 2019?

Two Favorites To Bet

Brazil
Odds To Win COPA America: +125

The host nation will be under pressure to deliver as the favorite to win the tournament. The good news is the group stage should present few challenges for Brazil as they are a -667 favorite to win Group A, which also houses Peru, Venezuela, and Bolivia. After that is when the five-time World Cup winners will be put to the test.

Brazil hasn’t won a trophy since winning COPA America back in 2007. If they are going to do it this time around, they will need to do so without their biggest star in Neymar, who will be sidelined for four weeks with an ankle injury. Still, Brazil is absolutely loaded with Gabriel Jesus, Fernandinho and David Neres ready to roll along with Dani Alves and Phillipe Coutinho.

Brazil undoubtedly has the talent to dominate on home soil and that should be a big factor. They’ve won COPA every year that they have hosted it. That’s why they’re the best bet among the favorites.

Argentina
Odds To Win COPA America: +350

Argentina figures to once again be Brazil’s toughest competition at this year’s COPA America. While the South American side has struggled on the biggest stage in recent years, they have plenty of motivation to earn a measure of redemption at this tournament.

First of all, this could be the final chance for Lionel Messi to celebrate a major championship in the blue and white. Additionally, the Argentina side has heard all of the criticism levied at the squad over the years so they should be eager to silence their critics.

With Sergio Aguero and Paulo Dybala joining Messi up front, this squad has the firepower to keep up with any team in the tournament. Brazil is the favorite, but Argentina is right there with them as another legitimate contender to win the 2019 COPA America.

Two Longshots To Bet

Chile
Odds To Win COPA America: +900

While Uruguay is the favorite to emerge out of Group C, Chile can’t be counted out after consecutive COPA America titles. The Chileans are loaded with firepower throughout their lineup. While they haven’t exactly dazzled in recent international competition, this team is stacked with veterans that understand what it will take to succeed at the highest level.

Manager Reinaldo Rueda is confident that Chile can put it all together and make a serious run against traditional powerhouses like Brazil and Argentina. At +900 odds, Chile is an outstanding sleeper value option to win the 2019 COPA America.

Peru
Odds To Win COPA America: +2000

Sticking with another sleeper value pick, Peru is worth a dart throw. They fit the bill as a squad that has all of the makings of a team that could surprise.

Peru didn’t get the results they were looking for at the 2018 World Cup, but this team certainly held its own in a 1-0 loss to eventual World Cup champion France in the group stage.

La Blanquirroja attack in waves and if they can find their way out of Group A, they could make a deeper-than-expected run.
