U.S. Open 2022: Joaquin Niemann Betting Odds, Preview, & Prediction

For the first time since 1988, the U.S. Open returns to The Country Club in Brookline, Mass, this Thursday. While most of the conversation swirls around the feud between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, the field proves promising. The 2022 PGA Tour average score sits at 70.76, on pace for the 3rd lowest average for a single season ever.

The last time the course was used was the 1999 Ryder Cup, where Justin Leonard sank a 45-foot-birdie putt on the 17th hole to defeat José Maria Olazábal and give the Americans the lead in the 33rd Ryder Cup. The weather conditions, the state of the PGA Tour, and the course outlook all have something in common; nothing is certain, which could make this year’s U.S. Open one of the most dramatic golf tournaments in history. So here are some of the tournament’s favorites who could hoist the Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday.

Joaquin Niemann Tournament History

Like many others, this will be Joaquin Niemanns’ first trip to The Country Club at Brookline. Niemann, just 23 years old, is making his 4th appearance in the U.S. Open, hoping to secure his first Major victory. In his three starts, he has yet to crack the Top-20, with his best performance coming back in 2020 when he finished T23.

In 2020, Niemann kept himself in contention through the first three rounds, as he never slipped out of the Top 12. After shooting a 77 in the final round, Nieman fell out of the Top 20 and finished T23.

Joaquin Niemann Recent Form

Looking at Niemann’s past results, one word comes to mind: consistent. Joaquin has a well-rounded golf game, and it has shown this season.

Niemann has started in 11 tournaments in 2022 and has finished inside the Top 40 in all but two. He missed the cut in February at The Honda Classic and a WD at the Zurich Classic in April. Since then, he has finished in the Top-25 over his last three tournaments, including a T3 finish earlier this month at The Memorial Tournament.

Joaquin Niemann U.S. Open Predictions

Niemann has been playing well coming into the U.S. Open. He has finished inside the Top-25 in his last three tournaments and, as I mentioned earlier, has a well-rounded game that will benefit this course.

The Chili native ranks inside the Top 40 strokes gained in Off The Tee, Approach, Around-The-Green, and Bogey Avoidance.

The Pick: If I had to make a pick, it would be Joaquin Niemann to finish inside the Top 40 (-150 via FanDuel).
