U.S. Open 2022: Patrick Cantlay Betting Odds, Preview, & Prediction

All eyes turn to the golf world this weekend as players and fans gear up for the 122nd edition of the U.S. Open Championship. The four-day tournament makes its return to The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., for the first time since 1988 and this will be the fourth time that they’ve hosted (1913, 1963).

Many players hope to find themselves in the hunt for the Major championship on Sunday, or at least in the running to cash in on the $12.5 million purse. The winner will walk away with a $2.25 million check. Will Patrick Cantlay make a run at one of the most prestigious titles in golf?

Patrick Cantlay Course History

There has not been a professional event held at The Country Club since the Ryder Cup in 1999, so Patrick Cantlay has never played the course in any professional capacity.

As for his recent history in the U.S. Open, the 10-year pro has had scattered results over the years. Cantlay has competed in the event six times, dating back to 2011 when he played as a low amateur (T21). His best finish was last year, tying for 15th at Torrey Pines with a final score of +1. That was his only top-20 finish in the U.S. Open, although he just missed that accomplishment in 2019, placing T21 at Pebble Beach with a -2 score.

Patrick Cantlay Recent Form

Aside from the two other Major championships this year where he finished outside of the top 35, Cantlay has been putting together a monster year. He won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside Xander Schauffele back in April with a -29 score, beating the second-place duo by two strokes. Cantlay also placed second in the WM Phoenix Open and RBC Heritage, losing both tournaments in playoff fashion. Altogether, the California native has six top-five finishes and another top 10 since January.

His most recent event was the Memorial Tournament during the first week of June, and Cantlay played great. He finished the tournament at -7 and tied for third place.

Patrick Cantlay U.S. Open Predictions

The Pick: +250 to Finish Inside the Top 10 (via Caesars)

Aside from his finishes at the Masters (T39) and the PGA Championship (MC), Patrick Cantlay has been consistently finishing inside the top 10 this year. I’ll back Cantlay to do it again this weekend at +250. It’s a little troublesome that his two worst finishes have come at Major championships this year, but it could be completely random. Cantlay has been playing as a professional since 2012, so I doubt it’s nerves that got to him.

With that being said, I think it’s well worth a shot to take him for a top-10 finish. The American has played in 11 events since January and finished inside the top 10 for seven of them.
