All eyes turn to the golf world this weekend as players and fans gear up for the 122nd edition of the U.S. Open Championship. The four-day tournament makes its return to The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., for the first time since 1988 and this will be the fourth time that they’ve hosted (1913, 1963).

Many players hope to find themselves in the hunt for the Major championship on Sunday, or at least in the running to cash in on the $12.5 million purse. The winner will walk away with a $2.25 million check. Will Shane Lowry make a run at one of the most prestigious titles in golf?

Shane Lowry Tournament History

2022 will be Shane Lowry’s 10th start in the U.S. Open. Lowry’s history in the U.S. Open is a bit of a roller coaster ride. Shane has missed the cut three times and recorded two top-10 finishes, including a T2 finish back in 2016 at Oakmont Country Club.

Since those back-to-back top-10 finishes, Lowry has failed to crack the top 20 over his last five U.S. Open appearances.

Shane Lowry’s Recent Form

Shane Lowry just notched his fourth top-10 finish of 2022 with a T10 finish at the RBC Canadian Open last week. Despite Lowry’s excellent play, he has been flying under the radar so far this season. Of his last 10 starts, he has finished in the top five three times and at least finished in the top 20 in six of those 10 starts.

Lowry is looking for his second career Major victory, his first coming back in 2019 when he won The Open by six strokes. Lowry has had early success this year in the two Majors, finishing T3 at The Masters and T23 in last month’s PGA Championship.

Shane Lowry’s game doesn’t exactly fit this course, but a few things he does well should help him this weekend. Combined with his recent form, he should be in the conversation come Sunday afternoon.

With The Country Club’s narrow fairways and extremely small greens, bogey avoidance, approach, and around-the-green stats will be vital for this tournament. Lowry currently ranks 74th in strokes gained around the green but ranks third in bogey avoidance and ninth in approach. The Irishman might be playing his best golf right now; he has four top-20 finishes in his last six, including two top-five finishes.
