U.S. Open 2022: Xander Schauffele Betting Odds, Preview, & Prediction

All eyes turn to the golf world this weekend as players and fans gear up for the 122nd edition of the U.S. Open Championship. The four-day tournament makes its return to The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., for the first time since 1988 and this will be the fourth time that they’ve hosted (1913, 1963).

Many players hope to find themselves in the hunt for the Major championship on Sunday, or at least in the running to cash in on the $12.5 million purse. The winner will walk away with a $2.25 million check. Will Xander Schauffele make a run at one of the most prestigious titles in golf?

Xander Schauffele Course History

Xander Schauffele is one of the few players in this tournament that has played at Brookline. The last time a USGA tournament was played here was back in 2013 with a U.S. amateur tournament that Schauffele competed in. He won’t have much of an edge, as the course has been renovated since. It’s on the shorter side at a little over 7,200 yards and a par 70 course that reverts back to the old days of golf with smaller greens and brushing roughs surrounding the greens.

Xander Schauffele Recent Form

It’s been a great 2022 for Schauffele with eight top-20 finishes in 12 tournaments. He struggled at Augusta shooting seven over and missing the cut, but in the next tournament, he took a victory at Zurich Classic of New Orleans shooting -29, then finished T5 shooting -23 at AT&T Byron Nelson.

Xander Schauffele U.S. Open Predictions

The Pick: +2400 to win (via FanDuel)

While Schauffele can drive the ball off the tee, that’s not how he’ll win this par-70, 7,200-yard course. With thick roughs surrounding most of the fairways and greens, accuracy will be key and his 63.10% driving accuracy is going to play well in his favor. His iron game will be the focus, as he ranks 12th in strokes gained approaching the green and 30th around the green. Again, it will be a big help to avoid the rough. The infamous 131-yard 11th hole has a small green with a tilt, so his accuracy could be a plus where others could bogey. In fact, a majority of the holes feature small greens on tilts and slopes where the wrong approach could leave you in trouble. The putting game is solid at 24th in total putting and a 35% birdie or better conversion rate on the green will definitely keep him in the running throughout the weekend.
