UFC 255: Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Alex Perez Betting Guide (2020)

After a run of three consecutive weekends of free fights for ESPN+ subscribers, the UFC will move back behind the paywall this weekend as two championship bouts will serve as the co-main and main events. Back in their home of Las Vegas, NV at the UFC Apex after another successful run on “Fight Island” in the UAE, the second to last Pay-Per-View event of the year should not disappoint.

Immediately following what should be one of the best co-main events of the fall slate between Valentina Shevchenko (c) and Jennifer Maia in the women’s flyweight division, the main event of the evening is another one for all the marbles.

Will Alex Perez be able to rip the belt away from current flyweight champ Deiveson Figueiredo? Let’s take a closer look.

Prior to signing with the UFC in the spring of 2017,  Deiveson “God of War” Figueiredo had amassed a pro 11-0 record while fighting his home country of Brazil. Since joining the company, Figueiredo has done nothing short of dismantling the division.

In his nine fights since, Figueiredo has amassed a record of 8-1 picking up TKO wins over John Maraga, Joseph Morales, and most recently Joseph Benavidez. In fact, Figueiredo beat Benavidez, the #1 contender in the division, twice already in 2020, once just before the pandemic in February and again in July on “Fight Island”.

While the second was for the belt after missing weight in the first, Figueiredo made both look easy, with neither getting past the halfway point of the second round.

Since turning pro in 2011, Alex Perez racked up a record of 16-4 before joining the UFC via Dana White’s Contender Series in the summer of 2015. Bouncing between flyweight and bantamweight since Perez has also lost just once in the UFC, to the aforementioned Benavidez almost two years ago to the data via a first-round TKO.

Bottom Line

Unlike many of the fighters in their weight class, these guys are two of the most aggressive in the division and have a knack for getting things over with. For Perez, only one of his last four fights have made it out of the first round, and for Figueiredo just one of his last three.

In this one, with a belt on the line, I expect to see some hesitancy early, but certainly not enough for this thing to go the distance. I think the right amount of values comes in this fight ending sometime before the third bell.

Pick: Fight to Start Round 4 – NO (-215)
