UFC 275 Teixeira vs. Procházka: Odds & Picks for the Top Fights (2022)

UFC 275 is set to get underway this Saturday in Singapore. We are in store for a great night as the main card is stacked with two title fights and a rematch of 2020’s fight of the year.

The main event is a men’s light heavyweight title fight as Glover Teixeira defends his belt against challenger Jiri Prochazka in what should be an explosive fight. The co-main event is another title fight as Valentina Shevchenko defenders her flyweight title belt against challenger Taila Santos.

Prior to both of these championship fights will most likely be the best scrap of the night as Zhang Weili and Joanna Jedrzejczyk will have a rematch of their historic fight in 2020, which earned them the fight of the year honors. Not only was that fight the best fight of 2020, but many also contend (including myself) that it was one of the best fights of all time.

Zhang Weili vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk

While there may be a takedown or two mixed in, I’m expecting this fight to stay on the feet for the most part. If that holds, I feel good about taking a shot with the underdog, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, on the money line at +150 (via DraftKings). Her volume is second-to-none, averaging 6.30 significant strikes per minute. That combined with the fact that Weili is absorbing 4.13 strikes per minute, Jedrzejczyk has the opportunity to cause some damage over 25 minutes.

Jedrzejczyk has a 2” edge in both height and reach, so I think that plays well for her in this fight. We may be in for another judge’s decision at the end of the night, and I’ll take my chances with the underdog in this one.

Pick: Joanna Jedrzejczyk ML (+150 via DraftKings)

Glover Teixeira vs. Jiří Procházka

Becoming the oldest first-time world champion at 42 years old was no small task. UFC veteran Glover Teixeira climbed the mountain nearly eight years after his first belt opportunity (loss) to Jon Jones. While it shouldn’t be discounted in the slightest, I think there is a sense of “happy to be there” coming from his camp, and he’s picked the wrong one should he enter the octagon with that attitude on Saturday.

For his first challenger in steps Jiří Procházka, a 29-year-old Czech killer with one of the most brutal punches in the entire sport. Coming into this fight, 25 of his 28 professional wins have come via KO/TKO, with seven of his last 10 coming in the very first round. While Tex will likely try and get this one to the ground early, I think the lank and athletic Procházka can keep it upright and see this one going the challenger’s way before it’s all said and done.

Pick: Jiri Procházka ML (-200 at DK Sportsbook)

Valentina Shevchenko vs. Taila Santos

Both Shevchenko and Santos boast fight-stopping power, exemplified by their recent fight logs. For that reason, I’m taking the under on 3.5 rounds in this fight.

In my opinion, the only chance for Taila Santos to win this fight is by finishing it prior to the final bell. She will not want to leave this one up to the judges. While she’s a massive underdog, and rightfully so, Santos possesses a powerful right hand that can stun any opponent. If she’s able to wobble Shevchenko and take her down, she may be able to slip in a submission and claim the belt.

On the flip side, Shevchenko has proven to be the most polished fighter in women’s MMA. She’s the current pound-for-pound champ, and she’s well deserving of that honor. I expect Santos to pressure her, which will likely force Shevchenko to react rather than act on her own terms. That won’t be a problem for the champ, as she’s proven the capability to adapt and finish fights early. Whatever way this fight plays out, I like the under on 3.5 rounds to cash.

Pick: Under 3.5 Rounds
