UFC 291: Poirier vs Gaethje Best Longshot Bets
CJ Vergara vs Vinicius Salvador
In the early prelims, we have a flyweight bout between CJ Vergara and Vinicius Salvador.
Vergara is coming off an improbable comeback victory over Daniel Lacerda. After getting rocked numerous times over the course of the first two rounds, Vergara was (quite literally) running for his life in the cage.
However, he was able to survive long enough to pull off a miraculous victory with ground and pound. With that said, he was seconds away from losing by the same method, and that could very well happen against Salvador.
A 125-pounder with a ton of power, 13 of Salvador’s 14 professional wins coming via knockout. He loves to stand-and-bang, and that will likely be Vergara’s game plan as well.
Salvador has been more accomplished in that department, and with how active each flyweight is, this fight is likely not seeing the final bell.
The Pick: Vinicius Salvador via KO/TKO (+275 via BetRivers)
Tony Ferguson vs Bobby Green
On the main card, we have a lightweight bout between two veterans – Tony Ferguson and Bobby Green.
I am a big Ferguson fan just like everyone else, but unfortunately, this is not the same guy that we all have watched over the past decade. He has lost each of his past five fights, two of which were via knockout.
Those first four losses came against Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, Beneil Dariush and Michael Chandler, so those are definitely not any losses that he should hang his head about. However, the latest loss to a retiring Nate Diaz was the confirmation that he is no longer the Ferguson-of-old.
Meanwhile, Green is coming off his knockout victory over Jared Gordon that was (rightfully) overturned to a no contest for a clash of heads. Prior to that fight, he lost to Drew Dober via knockout.
Green’s hands looked great in that scrap, throwing with lightning speed and landing cleanly numerous times to Dober’s head. Obviously, Dober has one of the best chins in the game, so he was able to survive.
Ferguson may not be as fortunate, especially with his recent performances.
The Pick: Bobby Green via KO/TKO (+195 via PointsBet)
