UFC 310: Nate Landwehr vs. Doo Ho Choi

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Nate Landwehr (-135)

Nate "The Train" Landwehr is 18-5 as a professional and 5-3 in the UFC. His last fight was a knockout victory over Jamall Emmers in March. He lost to Dan Ige via unanimous decision in the fight prior.

He is a pressure fighter who averages 6.25 significant strikes and absorbs 5.75 significant strikes per minute. Landwehr lands with 46% accuracy but defends 55% of significant strikes. He averages one takedown landed per 15 minutes, with 41% accuracy, and defends 86% of takedowns.

Doo Ho Choi (+114)

Doo Ho Choi got a much-needed victory his last time in the octagon. He beat Bill Algeo via knockout. He went to a draw with Kyle Nelson in 2023 when he returned from a three-year layoff.

Choi is an entertaining fighter who lands 4.41 significant strikes and absorbs 4.49 significant strikes per minute. He lands with 53% accuracy and defends 55% of significant strikes. Choi lands 0.75 takedowns per 15 minutes with 37% accuracy and defends 47%.

Prediction

This matchup is perfection from the matchmakers. Doo Ho Choi and Nate Landwehr never fail to have entertaining fights, and when the two meet on Saturday, I expect fireworks. Choi is in the fight wing of the UFC Hall of Fame for his brawl with Cub Swanson in 2016 and has five bonuses in his eight-fight UFC career. Landwehr has four bonuses in his eight-fight UFC career.

Landwehr is a menace in the octagon. He does not seem to be fazed by any big strikes. The only time he has been finished is with a knee to the head. Opponents have to land something spectacular to put him away. Both men tend to brawl, which favors Landwehr because of his durability. Choi tends to lose when the fight turns into a brawl because he gets hit a lot. He also does not have the most finishing power and therefore does not have enough power in his hands to finish Landwehr.

I expect this fight to become a brawl. Both men have a long history of entertaining the fans, and this could become another classic fight. Landwehr is more durable and wins more brawls than Choi, who will put on a show for fans but always seems to be on the losing end, and this fight is no different. Landwehr will be moving forward despite getting hit by Choi's best shot. I will side with the durable Landwehr, but the real winner of this fight will be the fans.
