UFC 314: Bryce Mitchell vs. Jean Silva Betting Guide

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Betting Profile: Bryce Mitchell (17-3-0)

13th-ranked Featherweight Bryce Mitchell is fighting for his ranking this weekend, after suffering two losses in his last four fights. The American has alternated wins and losses in his last five UFC appearances, but he enters on the heels of a knockout win (Elbows) against Kron Gracie in December 2024. The two recent defeats came against Ilia Topuria (SUB - Arm Triangle) and Josh Emmett (KO/TKO - Punches), more recently. Mitchell didn't land a single punch against Emmett in December 2023, and he was ushered out in less than two minutes in the devastating knockout loss.

Mitchell is extremely reliant on his wrestling. He's landing 3.39 takedowns per 15 minutes at a 43% success rate. He's fending off 33% of opposing takedown attempts. As for his striking, the 30-year-old is landing only 2.31 significant strikes per minute, while also only 1.53 strikes per minute. Mitchell is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has nine submission wins on his resume.

Betting Profile: Jean Silva (15-2-0)

Brazil's Jean Silva is a perfect 5-0 in the UFC promotion, and each of his last four wins has come via knockout. Throughout his 15-2-0 professional career, the 28-year-old has 12 knockouts and a pair of submission victories. The four recent finishes came against Westin Wilson (Punch), Charles Jourdain (Punch), Drew Dober (Doctor's Stoppage), and Melsik Baghdasaryan (Punch), most recently. Silva's riding a 12-fight winning streak overall.

"Lord" Silva is averaging 5.26 significant strikes per minute at a 53% success rate, while getting hit 4.14 times per minute. The Sao Paulo native isn't too active in the takedown department, but is averaging 0.73 takedowns per 15 minutes at a 50% clip. He's also fending off 80% of opposing attempts, which will be key against the wrestling-heavy Mitchell.

Bottom Line

Of the five fights on Saturday's main card, this Featherweight tilt has the biggest disparity from an odds standpoint. Brazil's Jean Silva is a -230 moneyline favorite to win his 13th straight fight, while Bryce Mitchell comes back at +190 to get his hand raised.

This is your classic wrestling-dominant fighter vs. knockout artist matchup. If Mitchell is able to amass ground time against the Brazilian, then he'll likely find a way to win this fight.

However, I don't think that's how this one is going to play out. I'm taking Silva to win this fight, and I think it'll come by way of knockout. After that brutal knockout at the hands of Josh Emmett, Mitchell had what I'd consider a tune-up fight against Kron Gracie. Still, it took him until the third round to find a finish.

Now he'll have to navigate a bona fide knockout artist in Silva, and I just don't see that happening. The 28-year-old Silva boasts an excellent 80% takedown defense rate and hasn't been taken down in either of his last two contests, so I expect him to keep this fight upright. He's also logged four consecutive knockouts, and I think that's a trend we'll see continue on Saturday. I'm playing Silva to win by knockout.
