UFC 317 Prelims Card PicksĀ

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Viviane Araujo (+205) vs. Tracy Cortez (-250)

Viviane Araujo is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Karine Silva, but has had an up-and-down UFC career. She is 13-6 as a professional and 7-5 in the UFC. She is facing Tracy Cortez, who dropped her last fight to Rose Namajunas by unanimous decision in a main event. Cortez is 11-2 as a professional and 5-1 in the UFC.

Cortez is known for being a decent boxer and solid wrestler. She averages 2.09 takedowns landed per 15 minutes but only defends 62% of takedowns. Araujo is a well-rounded fighter who appears to have improved in her last fight. She defends 80% of takedowns in the UFC and averages 1.86 takedowns landed per 15 minutes.

Araujo is a solid Muay Thai striker who has fought numerous high-level opponents. Her losses have come against some of the best fighters in women's MMA. Cortez is not on that level despite her solid record. She has beaten some low-level opponents in the UFC, but the odds do not make sense in this fight. They should be a lot closer in this matchup, and the value is too good to pass up. I think Araujo wins a hard-fought decision, as she comes into the fight with a lot of momentum.

Bet: Viviane Araujo Moneyline (+205)

Hyder Amil (+136) vs. Jose Delgado (-162)

Hyder Amil is an 11-0 prospect with three UFC fights under his belt. He is facing Jose Delgado, who is 9-1 as a professional and 1-0 in the UFC. Amil beat William Gomis by a split decision in his last fight and won two fights by knockout to start his UFC career. Delgado beat Connor Matthews by first-round knockout in his debut.

Delgado averages 4.80 takedowns landed per 15 minutes through one fight in the UFC. Amil has only defended 80% of takedowns. Delgado is a pressure fighter with solid wrestling and a good chin. Amil may be overlooking his opponent, and it could cost him his undefeated record.

Amil has sharp boxing skills but is not great at fighting, particularly when moving backward. Delgado will pressure him and have nonstop output. Amil is somewhat reckless when striking, which does not benefit him in this matchup.

Delgado can time takedowns when Amil starts moving forward and use his kickboxing to keep him at range when striking. Delgado is a high-level prospect and could put his name on the map with an impressive win over an undefeated fighter.

Bet: Jose Delgado (-162)
