UFC Fight Night: Aspen Ladd vs. Norma Dumont Betting Guide (2021)

A women’s featherweight bout will serve as the main event Saturday night at the UFC Apex as Aspen Ladd makes her long-awaited return to the UFC to take on Norma Dupont in a five-round affair. In what should be a great card in the lead-up, this one should not disappoint and features two fighters at the top of their game.

Let’s take a closer look.

Betting Profile: Aspen Ladd (9-1-0)

Since last fighting in December of 2019, Ladd has been scheduled to face three different women on three separate occasions, all being canceled late in the camp for various reasons. Most recently, on October 2nd, Ladd was scheduled to fight Macy Chiasson, but the fight was canceled after Ladd failed to make weight, all just days before the event.

Now just ten days later, she prepares for a fighter in Dupont who also just ten days ago had a different opponent scheduled; the now injured Holly Holm.

For Ladd, one of the best strikers amongst all women divisions, she comes into this one landing 5.22 strikes per minute, 55% of which are significant. However, she also absorbs 4.84 strikes per minute, which are cause for concern against a fellow elite striker.

Betting Profile: Norma Dumont (6-1-0)

Before her canceled bout with Holm, Dumont last fought inside the octagon in May, a split decision win over Felicia Spencer. A Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Dumont is an elite striker and should be able to more than handle herself on the ground against Ladd.

While her striking stats are nearly identical to Ladd (5.35, 55%), she absorbed two fewer strikes per minute at just 2.65. Her defensive clip is also a full 25% better at 72%, showing her ability to defend herself against the barrage of punches that will ultimately be seen from Ladd.

Bottom Line?

With the grappling metrics almost identical between these two, there’s one area that concerns me for Ladd that I can’t look away from; ring rust. Having not fought in over two years, Ladd comes into this one not only rusty inside the octagon against a live opponent but potentially physically deteriorated as well.

It’s not often you see the UFC cancel a fight over concern of a fighter’s health post-weigh-in, but that’s exactly what happened less than two weeks ago. Now facing a completely different opponent who is equal on almost all fronts, I have this one graded much closer and am riding with the dog to get this one done.

Pick: Dumont +120
