UFC Fight Night: Grant Dawson vs. Rick Glenn Guide (2021)

Just one free night of fights on ESPN+ remains before back-to-back UFC PPVs as the promotion hits the road for UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi and UFC 268 in New York City. Before those weekend events unfold, however, UFC Fight Night: Costa vs. Vettori features a PPV-worthy card that’s stacked from to bottom.

Before the middleweights fight in the main event, the co-main features two up-and-coming lightweights who look poised to put on a show. Let’s take a closer look at the bout between Grant Dawson and Rick Glenn.

Betting Profile: Grant Dawson (17-1-0)

Last Five Fights

Dawson hasn’t lost since joining the UFC in 2017 via DWCS, finishing four of six fights inside the distance via varying methods. Most recently, Dawson dismantled Leonardo Santos, ending the fight in the final round via a flurry of punches (KO).

A Brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Dawson has dominated on the ground, averaging 3.44 takedowns and a staggering 1.61 submissions per 15 minutes.

Betting Profile: Rick Glenn (22-6-1)

Glenn joined the UFC a year before Dawson but has seen decidedly different results. Stumbling to a 4-3 record, he’s done just enough to remain under contract. However, he’s still in search of his first big win.

The last time we saw Glenn inside the octagon, he landed a first-round KO of Joaquim Silva that likely earned him this co-main event spot. Although also a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Glenn relies more on his striking. He enters this fight averaging 4.39 strikes per minute, with 42% classifying as significant.

Bottom Line

Dawson would almost certainly propel himself to a top-15 ranking, or at least a fight against someone inside of it, with a win over Glenn. Despite matching pedigrees in grappling, Dawson has shown a higher level of skill on the ground. A closer look at the metrics shows a significant edge on his feet as well.

While their SLpM are similar, Glenn absorbs over double the number of strikes at 4.27 per minute. Against a foe who has one-punch power, I like for Dawson to end this one inside the distance and continue climbing up the ranks.

Pick: Grant Dawson by KO/TKO or Submission +130
