UFC Fight Night: Jack Hermansson vs. Marvin Vettori Betting Guide (2020)

In what was originally supposed to be a middleweight fight between welterweight contender Darren Till and Jack Hermansson, an undisclosed injury from Till forced him to withdraw. In his place, stepped Kevin Holland who was also forced to withdraw following a recent COVID-19 positive test.

In Holland’s place steps Marvin Vettori, an Italian middleweight journeyman on a recent tear, who was originally supposed to fight next week at UFC 256.

Let’s take a closer look at what should be one of the most competitive main events in recent weeks.

Jack Hermansson (21-5-0) vs. Marvin Vettori (15-4-1)

Winner of four of his last five including a first-round submission victory in his most recent fight over Kelvin Gastelum, Jack Hermansson is on a mission to get to the top of the middleweight division. Currently ranked as the #4 contender to current champ Israel Adesanya, Hermansson has been dominant on this most recent run finishing his opponent inside the bell in all but one of his last seven victories.

Outside of a September 2019 TKO defeat to Jared Cannonier, you have to go back to late 2017 for the last time Hermannson has faced defeat, with none of his professional losses coming beyond the second round.

Hermansson’s last-minute opponent on Saturday night is most certainly a worthy one in Marvin “The Italian Dream” Vettori.

After beginning his professional career in 2011 as a welterweight, Vettori joined the UFC as a middleweight in 2016. After starting out with a record of 2-1-1, including a split decision loss to eventual division champion Adesanya, Vettori has won his last three straight.

The last time we saw him inside the octagon was his most dominant performance to date, a first-round submission over Karl Roberson that won him Performance of the Night honors. His first fight bonus since joining the company, the fiery Vettori will be looking to put on a show for his fans this weekend in what will be his first UFC Main Event.

Bottom Line

After quickly running through the European fighter circuit, Vettori’s rise through the UFC has been a slow burn but a win here would put him on the map in a big way. Since taking Adesanya to the brink back in 2018, fans of the middleweight division have long awaited for Vettori to rise to the higher ranks of the middleweight division, and a win here would initiate just that.

In this one, I see Vettori’s style as a nightmare to deal with on short notice, and the perfect springboard for a win over Hermansson that puts the fight world at large on notice.

Pick: Marvin Vettori -142
