UFC Fight Night: Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Augusto Sakai Betting Guide

A stacked summer of UFC cards gets underway Saturday in Las Vegas, NV, as UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Sakai kicks off four straight weekends of events. In this one, the promotion’s heavyweights are on display as both the co-main and main event features the weight class.

Let’s take a look at what’s at stake in the division and where the value remains in the evening’s main event.

Betting Profile: Jairzinho Rozenstruik (11-2-0)

“Bigi Boy” Rozenstruik was once thought to be the potential future of the division as he ended 2019 as an undefeated 30-year-old with a KO win over Alistair Overeem. Since then, however, Rozenstruik has suffered two losses in three fights, the first to eventual champion Francis Ngannou via a first-round TKO.

As with most fighters of his size (6’2″, 255 lbs), Rozenstruik relies heavily on his striking, dishing out 3.14 Strikes Landed per Min. (SLpM), right in the middle of the division in that statistic. Where he does excel is preventing the takedown, averaging 80% over his fights with the UFC.

Betting Profile: Augusto Sakai (15-2-0)

Since joining the UFC in the summer of 2018, Augusto Sakai was on a meteoric rise through the heavyweight division before a fifth-round defeat at the (elbows) of Alistair Overeem in September. A five-round war that he narrowly missed victory, Sakai should be fuming coming off his first loss with the company.

Even in the defeat, Sakai has shown an elite level of striking, ranking near the top of the division with 5.32 SLpM. At 6’4″ 260lbs, Sakai is also the naturally larger fighter, a disadvantage Rozenstruik has rarely seen in his career.

Outright Bet

Don’t let the common opponent fool you when it comes to breaking down this matchup of heavyweight goliaths, and I have Sakai in the favorite as this one. Not only has he shown more consistency as of late,  but the quality of his wins has been higher.

Pick: Augusto Sakai +250

Outright Bet

With an aging Rozenstruik having lost two of his last three, I expect Sakai to smell blood in the water heading into this one and go for the first-round fireworks.

Pick: Augusto Sakai KO/TKO & Round 1
