A pair of top 10 women bantamweight’s will go at it Saturday afternoon at the Apex as Miesha Tate continues her comeback tour, this time against her stiffest competition yet. In what should be a full day of great fights, let’s take a look at Saturday’s main event and see where we can spot the edge.

A Black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a Black belt in Judo, Ketlen Vieira is one of the more decorated women’s fighters under the UFC banner and has caused problems for some of the bantamweight division’s best fighters. Despite coming into this one losing two of her last three, Vieira is the slight favorite in this one as her level of competition has been second to none over that span.

Looking at her fight metrics, Vieira is about even with Tate in striking but does have edges in takedown accuracy (48% vs. 32%) and takedown defense (92% vs. 52%). It also must be kept in mind when looking at the metrics in this fight, Tate has fought just once since 2016, while Vieira has averaged one fight a year since 2016 – all against killers.

For Tate, as we called from the start of that camp, her first fight back was all but handpicked, and she dominated a retiring Marion Reneau for three rounds before finishing her via TKO in the third. This one, however, will be quite different, as she draws an active top 10 (#7) fighter in Vieira who can finish her in multiple ways.

However, the one major edge Tate does have is her ability to finish once on the ground, as she is averaging 1.53 submissions per 15 minutes inside the octagon.

Bottom Line?

While the Tate of old can finish a fight against anyone (not named Amanda Nunes) at a moment’s notice, I’m not sure the Tate of old is back quite yet. However, I think she is getting there, and a win here against Vieira would do wonders for her confidence.

In this one, I both fighters to do just enough not to get finished, but with much on the line for both (losing 3 of 4 for Vieira & stalling the climb for Tate), I don’t expect many outlandish risks from either.

I like for this one to go the distance.
