UFC Fight Night: Robert Whittaker vs. Darren Till Betting Guide (2020)

Three great nights of fights later and we now have just one remaining in the UFC’s Fight Island promotion that has spanned over the last two weeks. With no outbreaks, and in the scheme of things only a few impactful positive tests, the time on Yas Island has been a smashing success for the company and a return wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

Saving one of the best cards of the four for last, UFC on ESPN: Whittaker vs. Till offers some new and old faces of the company for what should be a very entertaining evening.

While there’s no belt on the line Saturday evening, a bevy of former champions and hungry up and comers will go at it starting at 5 p.m. EST, with the main card kicking off at 8 p.m. EST. Like the last two events, the entire evening can be streamed on ESPN and ESPN+.

Headlining the evening are two middleweights who are very much in line for shots at the belt, potentially by year’s end.

Let’s take a closer look at the main event of the evening and see where we can spot an edge.

When Whittaker enters the octagon Saturday night on Fight Island, he’ll be doing so coming off of his first loss since 2014. The last time we saw Whittaker was one of the most disappointing results of his career, a second-round KO at the hands of Israel Adesanya in what was his first official title defense.

The former middleweight champ, Whittaker’s nine straight wins came against some of the best in the division including two over Yoel Romero in an 11-month time frame; no easy task.

His challenger, Darren Till, comes into this one looking to set up a shot at the title of his own, currently ranked the #5 contender in the division. In a title shot in the welterweight division in 2018 against Tyron Woodley, Till lost that fight via submission before six months later losing again to Jorge Masvidal by KO.

In his only fight since Till returned to the middleweight division and earned a split decision over Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244 in November to put himself right back in contention.

In this fight, I see two fighters with a lot on the line as far as immediate rewards coming with a win in the way of a title shot in the not so distant future. With that in mind, I expect a conservative approach from both, and for that to translate to a five-round affair.

Pick: Will the fight go the distance? – YES (+134)
