UFC Vegas 70 Andre Muniz vs. Brendan Allen: Odds & Picks (2023)

After Jessica Andrade’s loss to Eric Blanchfield on the previous UFC fight night, on February 26th, a light heavyweight battle between Nikita Krylov and Ryan Spann will serve as the main event for UFC Vegas 70. The fact that both of the headliners are seasoned UFC top-10 light heavyweights suggests that this is an event to watch, and I’ll surely be tuned in.

Before the main event gets underway, there’s a co-main event that should also be strong as Andre Muniz takes on Brendan Allen.

Let’s take a closer look.

UFC Vegas 70: Andre Muniz vs. Brendan Allen

Betting Profile: Andrew Muniz (23-4-0)

Last Five Fights (W-W-W-W-W)

A southpaw middleweight out of Brazil, Muniz comes into this fight amongst the hottest in the promotion, currently riding a nine-fight win streak, seven of which came in the Contender Series and with the UFC. Prior to his July win over Uriah Hall (decision), three straight had come via submission in the very first round.

His metrics coming into this fight back that prowess up, with a staggering takedown average per 15 minutes of 3.71, with a submission average of 2.12. Dominating both of those departments vs. Allen, Muniz would be wise to take this one to the ground early and often.

Betting Profile: Brendan Allen (20-5-0)

Last Five Fights (W-W-W-L-W)

Joining the UFC back in 2019 with a submission win over Kevin Holland, Allen has been no slouch in the division, racking up wins against Kyle Daukaus, Karl Roberson, and Sam Alvey in the time since. The last time we saw him in the octagon was a first-round submission of his own vs. Krystof Jotko in October.

While he’s not proven as elite on the ground as Muniz, Allen does have some edges in the striking department. Coming into this fight, Allen is landing 3.99 significant strikes landed per minute compared to just 1.91 from Muniz.

Bottom Line

In one of the biggest odds movements on this card, these two started out as -110 a side before Muniz shot through the roof, currently sitting at -205 across the board. While I do give him the slight edge on the ground, I’m in agreement with oddsmakers that this fight is much closer to even than the market has projected.

I’m taking Allen in a fight that I think goes the distance.
