UFL Week 3 Odds, Picks & Predictions: Saturday (2024)

Week 2 of the UFL season is in the books. All four matchups last week were one-possession games, with the largest margin of victory being seven points.

The first game on Saturday was between the San Antonio Brahmas and Memphis Showboats. The Brahmas pulled off a massive comeback victory. After being down 16-0 after the third quarter, San Antonio outscored Memphis 20-3 in the final frame to pull off the 20-19 victory. Chase Garbers had two touchdown passes in the final minute of the game.

While the second game on Saturday wasn't as exciting, it had a game-winning field goal. The St. Louis Battlehawks defeated the Arlington Renegades 27-24 in a close back-and-worth contest. After the Battlehawks tied the game in the fourth quarter, A.J. McCarron led St. Louis downfield with under two minutes to go, setting up Andre Szmyt for a 22-yard field goal as time expired.

However, all that happened last week. Now, it's time to move on to Week 3. Let's look at my favorite bet from both UFL matchups on Saturday.

D.C. Defenders vs. Arlington Renegades

The Defenders got in the win column in Week 2, defeating the Houston Roughnecks 23-18. They were down 18-12 entering the fourth quarter but dropped 11 in the final frame, including the go-ahead 17-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Ta'amu to Ty Scott. However, the victory over Houston shouldn't hold much weight with bettors. The Roughnecks are the only winless team in the USFL Conference and have scored the fewest points in the UFL this season (30).

While the Renegades haven't won a game this year, they have been unlucky. Arlington has the fourth-most points scored in the UFL (38). They got crushed by two touchdowns in their Week 1 matchup against the Birmingham Stallions. However, the Stallions will have several blowout wins this season. Last week, the Renegades lost on a last-second field goal to a talented Battlehawks squad.

Despite these two teams having identical 1-3 records, this matchup should be entertaining. The Defenders are a much better team at home than on the road. Meanwhile, the Renegades have faced the two best teams in the UFL. DraftKings has the Stallions (+190) and Battlehawks (+425) as the two heaviest favored teams to win the UFL Championship. This game shouldn't be a blowout, but Arlington gets their first win of the season and covers the small spread.

Pick: Renegades -1 (-102)

Memphis Showboats vs. Birmingham Stallions

After a solid Week 1 win over the Roughnecks, the Showboats had an epic collapse last weekend. After being up 16-0 and 19-8 with less than nine minutes left in the game, Memphis gave up two touchdowns to San Antonio in the final minute of the contest. While the late-game collapse is disappointing, the Showboats controlled that matchup for most of the day. Case Cookus and Darius Victor both had over 50 rushing yards in the loss.

Birmingham is the clear-cut top team in the UFL. They crushed the Renegades by 13 points in Week 1. While the Stallions didn't get a blowout victory, they had the largest margin of victory last weekend. After Matt Corral was outstanding opening weekend, Birmingham gave him and Adrian Martinez similar pass attempts in Week 2. While neither quarterback had a passing touchdown, the Stallions found success on the ground, rushing for over 160 yards in the win over the Michigan Panthers.

The Stallions should come away with the victory on Saturday. However, the Showboats won't make it easy. They blew an easy win against the Brahmas last week but played well in Week 1. Meanwhile, Birmingham has to get better quarterback play to win their third consecutive championship. Despite the Stallions having the clear-cut better team, the Showboats will cover the seven-point spread.
