UFL Week 6 Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (2024)

Week 5 of the UFL season is in the books. While most of the games this season have been competitive, last week's matchups were all double-digit blowouts, including three by at least 17 points. Hopefully, the games this week will be more competitive.

The first matchup last Sunday was between the St. Louis Battlehawks and D.C. Defenders. While the Defenders have been one of the top teams at home the past two years, the Battlehawks blew them out. St. Louis had a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. While D.C. made it a 17-12 halftime score, they didn't score in the second half. Meanwhile, the Battlehawks scored 25 points in the fourth quarter, winning 45-12.

Unfortunately, the final game from Week 5 wasn't competitive. The Michigan Panthers defeated the Memphis Showboats 35-18. Michigan had five rushing touchdowns in the game, including three by Wes Hills. The Showboats had no answer for the Panthers' rushing attack, giving up 160 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, Troy Williams had two interceptions for Memphis in the loss.

However, all that happened last week. Now, it's time to move on to Week 6. Let's look at my favorite bet from both UFL matchups on Sunday.

Arlington Renegades vs. Michigan Panthers

Arlington is the only winless team in the UFL at the halfway point of the season. Unfortunately, there isn't much of a silver lining with the team. Three of their losses have been by at least eight points, including two by double-digits. The Renegades have the third-lowest scoring offense, averaging 18 points per game. Meanwhile, they have the third-worst scoring defense, surrendering 25 points per game this year.

While the Birmingham Stallions are the top team in the USFL Conference, the Panthers aren't far behind. They have a 3-2 record, the second-best in the conference and fourth overall in the league. However, Michigan is arguably the most inconsistent team in the UFL. Over the past three weeks, they have a 2-1 record, with all three games being double-digit outcomes. The Panthers have the third-best scoring defense in the league, surrendering 18.6 points per game.

Hopefully, the Renegades get a win before the end of the 2024 season. However, it likely won't come this week. The Panthers have arguably the top rushing attack in the league. Wes Hills and E.J. Perry both rank top seven in rushing yards and top four in rushing touchdowns. Arlington has the worst run defense in the UFL, surrendering over 123 rushing yards per game. Michigan will run all over them and come away with an easy victory.

Pick: Panthers -5.5 (-112)

San Antonio Brahmas vs. D.C. Defenders

The St. Louis Battlehawks are the hottest team in the UFL since Week 1, posting a 4-0 record. However, the Brahmas are tied with the Battlehawks at the top of the XFL conference at 4-1. San Antonio's lone loss came against St. Louis in Week 3. Meanwhile, they have won by an average of nine points per game in their four victories. The Brahmas won three of their games by double-digits, including back-to-back contests.

Last year, the Defenders ran away with the best regular-season record in the XFL at 9-1. However, they haven't played as well in the UFL. D.C. has a 2-3 record, with back-to-back losses, including a 33-point blowout at the hands of St. Louis in Week 5. Jordan Ta'amu has the second-most passing touchdowns this season (seven) but leads the league in interceptions (five). More importantly, the Defenders have the third-worst strength of victory (.100) in the league.

These two teams faced off in Week 1, with the Brahmas getting the 15-point victory at home. Sunday's rematch is in D.C., giving the Defenders a slight boast. However, San Antonio has played outstanding football most of the season. They rank top-three in scoring offense and top-two in scoring defense. While the Brahmas won't win by double digits, expect them to cover the 1.5-point spread.
