Coastal Carolina enters this game sporting a perfect 4-0 record while ranked 17th in the country. They breezed through Citadel, Kansas, and UMass while winning a close 28-25 challenge from Buffalo in Week 3. Now the Chanticleers enter the conference portion of their schedule with hopes of running the table. That doesn’t seem to be in jeopardy this upcoming Saturday, as Coastal Carolina is listed as a 33.5 point home favorite against UL-Monroe.
UL-Monroe already has a conference win under their belt, defeating Troy 29-16 last week. That has served as the high point of the Warhawks young season, as they opened the 2021 campaign with a 10-45 defeat at Kentucky. Then, UL-Monroe narrowly defeated Jackson State (of the FCS ranks) by a score of 12-7. Which version of the Warhawks will show up to this difficult road test? Can they slow down the high-flying Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina?

Coastal Carolina has a potent offense that can put up points in a hurry. After all, they are averaging 45 points, 267 passing yards, and 250 rushing yards per contest. Even if UL-Monroe can slow down Coastal’s rushing attack, then they’ll have to deal with talented QB Grayson McCall and his explosive receivers. It’s a true “pick your poison†situation for opponents.
Making matters even more difficult for UL-Monroe, they’ll likely be without QB Rhett Rodriguez, who is considered doubtful to play on Saturday. That’s not exactly comforting news while heading into one of your most difficult games of the year. Breaking in a new QB while trying to keep pace with an explosive offense isn’t a formula for success.
