Updated FIFA Women’s World Cup Futures Odds (Sports Betting)

The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup has mostly been a by-the-book tournament so far. We expected the United States to roll in the Groups Stage and they have. As have the other three main contenders Germany, France, and England, each of whom is a perfect 3-0-0.

As we move onto the knockout stage, let’s take a look at the futures on the board and see which teams are favored to win it all.

United States
Odds at PointsBet: +160

The United States is in an odd position entering their final match of the group stage. On one hand, they’re already through and aren’t playing for much. On the other hand, the path to the finals seems much easier with a loss.

The winner of Thursday’s match will take on Spain (the world’s No. 13 team) in the Round of 16 and then have to face France (No. 4) in the quarters. On the other hand, the loser of this match faces the Group F runner-up, then either Canada (No. 5) or Netherlands (No. 8), and then Germany (No. 2). Remember that France is also the tournament host and second in line in terms of odds, so avoiding them might be the best bet.

Regardless, the United States shouldn’t fear anyone. They’ve won their two matches by a combined 16-0 and should win this tournament as long as they’re focused.

Editor’s Note: The U.S. defeated Sweden 2-0 on Thursday.

France
Odds at PointsBet: +350

France hasn’t really been tested all that much in the Groups Stage, but they’ve taken care of business. Les Bleus beat South Korea 4-0, Norway 2-1, and Nigeria 1-0. At the same time, the last two wins have to be a bit of a concern. It’s not as if those two sides are known as powerhouses (both are at +4000 or longer to win the Women’s World Cup) yet France barely eked out those wins. France didn’t get the lead until the 79th minute against Nigeria, which is a concern.

They have better football in them, but they also look a little bit vulnerable – especially since they have the home-field advantage.

Germany
Odds at PointsBet: +650

Germany, who is the No. 2 team in the world, has also looked a little less than crisp at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. They barely edged China 1-0, then beat Spain by the same score, and smoked a feeble South Africa side 4-0.

Is it anything to really be worried about? Probably not. However, you’d like to see this team do a little better than 1-0 against a team like China, who is at +10000 to win the World Cup. South Africa isn’t even on the board of odds, so big wins against them aren’t that impressive.

England
Odds at PointsBet: +750

England is the only other team on the board inside 10/1, but they haven’t looked that great themselves. They conceded a goal in their opener during a 2-1 win over Scotland, which isn’t bad, but it’s worth noting that the United States and Germany have yet to concede. England then edged Argentina and Japan. While the Japan win was comfortable, the 1-0 win over Argentina was a bit of a sweat as they didn’t get the lead until the 62nd minute.

Outlook

At the end of the day, it’s hard to see the United States losing the rest of the way. I wouldn’t be surprised if they won on Thursday on purpose with the hopes of facing France. They want some revenge on them as France was the only team in the world that beat them in 2019 (they’re 9-1-2).

An upset is possible but I haven’t seen enough from the other teams to warrant a bet on them to win it all. Expect the United States to be the champs at the end of it.
