U.S. Open 2022: Cameron Smith Betting Odds, Preview, & Prediction

The 122nd edition of the U.S. Open will tee off Thursday in Brookline, Mass., as The Country Club hosts its first major since 1988. With only the 1999 Ryder Cup and 2013 U.S. Amateur Open being hosted here since, there will be little to no course history for this year’s field, making this tournament, even more than usual, anyone’s to win.

Let’s take a closer look at one player I think has an excellent chance at being in the hunt come Sunday afternoon: Cameron Smith.

Cameron Smith Stats to Know

  • Best Odds to Win+2000 (via FanDuel)
  • World Ranking: 4
  • Best US Open finish: T4 (2015)
  • Last 4 US Open finishes: MC, T38, T72, MC
  • Last 4 tournament finishes: ??, T13, T13, T21

Cameron Smith U.S. Open History

Making his U.S. Open debut at Chambers Bay in 2015, Smith is still chasing that day as far as U.S. Opens are concerned, finishing T4 and failing to crack the top 30 since. Last year at Torrey Pines, Smith struggled mightily off the tee, shooting a 72-75 on Thursday-Friday and failing to make the cut.

Cameron Smith Recent Form*

Currently #2 on Tour in SG: Approach and SG: Total, Smith is playing some fantastic golf in what has been one of his best seasons. And the results have flowed in accordingly.

With two outright wins so far at the Sentry and Players Championship. Smith has also been dialed in at this season’s majors, with a T3 at the Masters and a T13 at the PGA Championship.

Cameron Smith U.S. Open Predictions

Outside of a missed cut at the RBC Heritage in mid-April, Smith has finished T21 or better in six of his last events, including a T13 at the Memorial despite a Sunday 77 that knocked him out of contention.

With more wins this season than combined in the prior four years, at 28 years of age, Smith has turned a corner in turning into one of the most consistently elite players on Tour each and every week. In addition to his strong strokes gained metrics, Smith ranks #1 on Tour in scoring average at 69.253, and when his game is clicking, his aggressive style of play is almost impossible to beat.

At 20/1 odds, I think there is value on the Aussie to get it done this week on a course where the playing field is essentially even, given the lack of course history.

The Pick: Cameron Smith to Win +2000
