U.S. Open 2022: Jon Rahm Betting Odds, Preview, & Prediction

The 122nd edition of the U.S. Open will tee off Thursday in Brookline, Mass., as The Country Club hosts its first major since 1988. With only the 1999 Ryder Cup and 2013 U.S. Amateur Open being hosted here since, there will be little to no course history for this year’s field, making this tournament, even more than usual, anyone’s to win.

While the golf world is in flux as some of its most elite players have chosen to take their talents to a different tour, plenty of elite talent remains, including the world #2 Jon Rahm. The 2021 U.S. Open winner at Torrey Pines, Rahm will look to defend his title this week at The Country Club.

Let’s take a closer look at his chances to make it two straight U.S. Open victories.

Jon Rahm U.S. Open History

Appearing in his first U.S. Open in 2016 at Oakmont, Rahm is four of five in made cuts, and including his win, last season finished top 25 in four successive editions. In 2019, Rahm shot a Sunday 68 to put himself in contention to win at Pebble Beach, falling just short but finishing with a -7 T3 performance.

Jon Rahm Recent Form*

Throwing out the first event of the season (Fortinent Championship) in September, Rahm has made every cut he’s entered this season on his way to being the established #2 golfer in the world. Over his past five events, Rahm has three top 10 finishes, including an outright win at the Mexico Open at the start of May. In the two majors so far this season, Rahm finished top 50 in both, despite Saturdays shooting 77 (Masters) and 76 (PGA Championship), which hampered any chances of being in a final pairing come his Sundays.

Jon Rahm US Open Predictions

The Pick: First Round Matchup (-120)**

Taking a few weeks off following his win at the Mexico Open might have been a mistake for Rahm, who came into the PGA Championship a bit rusty, having not played on Tour in the two weeks leading up to the event. Following a T48 at the PGA, we saw Rahm bounce back strong with a T10 at the Memorial, despite another frustrating Saturday.

With major results many players would kill for, including finishing T13 or better in six of his last nine major starts, Rahm will be in it come the weekend. Given his shakiness on Saturdays this season, I’ll be looking at first-round matchups for Rahm, taking him against anyone in the field if the odds are near even.
