U.S. Open 2022: Rory McIlroy Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

NBC will play host to the 122nd U.S. Open this weekend, hosted at the historic The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. While it’s been open for over 100 years, there hasn’t been a major held here since 1988, with the 2013 US Amateur and 1999 Ryder Cup the only two Tour appearances since.

With no course history available for most players, this year’s U.S. Open is even more so anyone’s to win and should make for a great week of action. Let’s take a closer look at a former U.S. Open winner, Rory McIlroy, and how things might shake out for him in the third major of the year.

Rory McIlroy U.S. Open History

Having competed in every U.S. Open since 2009, McIlroy has been a mixed bag of results with nearly as many top 10s (6) as he does missed cuts (5). Looking back over his last three performances, McIlroy has been dialed in, with three straight top 10 performances, including a T7 last year at Torrey Pines.

Following a Saturday 67, McIlroy even had a chance to win last season going into Sunday before shooting a 73 final round.

Rory McIlroy Recent Form

Currently No. 3 on Tour in driving distance and SG: Off-the-tee, Rory’s long ball has been dialed in this season as his game has seen a resurgence. In his nine events played, McIlroy has seven top 25s, five top 10s, and an outright victory at the CJ Cup in his first event of the season in October.

2-for-2 in top 10s in Majors this season, McIlroy followed up a solo second at the Masters with a solo eighth at the PGA Championship following a final-round 68.

Rory McIlroy US Open Predictions

Having gone 9-for-10 in making cuts over his last 10 Majors, McIlroy has finished T10 or better in five of his past seven, dating back to the 2021 Masters. If he can get the putter going early, we know the long ball will be there for McIlroy, and I like for his game to respond accordingly.

As of this writing, it looks like McIlroy will have secured the win at the RBC Open, and while it’s challenging for players to win in consecutive weeks, I do like him to finish near the top in the season’s third Major, the 2022 U.S. Open.

The Pick: To Finish Top 20 -150
