USA vs. France: Paris Olympics Basketball Picks (Sunday)
On Sunday, the United States Women’s Basketball team will play for gold to close out the Olympics. Just like in the Men’s Tournament, they’ll face France in France.

USA vs. France
France has earned medals in both men’s and women’s basketball. It’s been an incredible showing on their home floor. However, we just spoke about France’s last game against Belgium. Overall, it wasn’t pretty. To get a chance at gold, France shot below 30% from the field but forced enough turnovers to get the win. France ultimately took 25 more shots than Belgium and still only won by six in overtime.
Unfortunately for France, that won’t happen against the United States. The USA has the most talented roster in the sport, with a bunch of terrific three-point shooters, but nobody can match what the United States brings inside. Against Australia, the United States only took 17 threes despite taking 68 shots.
The United States is looking for high-quality shots and continues to get those looks inside the arc with Breanna Stewart and Aja Wilson. Those two have played spectacularly during this tournament and have been the best players in the Olympics. No team can match what those two bring to the table.
Additionally, France’s depth does not stack up against the United States. Iliana Rupert will play heavy minutes off the bench. However, the rest of the bench isn’t very deep. Against Belgium, for example, if you take Rupert out of the equation, the bench shot 3-for-26.
Even with France home, the United States will take advantage of their depth and shoot at a much higher percentage than France. Back the United States against the spread for gold.
