Tuesday’s Best NBA Play-In Tournament Picks & Predictions

Warriors -7 (-110)

The Golden State Warriors added three wins in four regular-season matchups against the Grizzlies. In all three wins, the Warriors scored at least 121 points. Meanwhile, in the one Grizzlies win, Memphis won 144-93. But this was before the Warriors brought in Jimmy Butler.

The Warriors won their most recent game against the Grizzlies on April 1st. In that game, Steph Curry scored 52 points and nearly earned a triple-double after hitting 12 three-pointers on 20 attempts. Jimmy Butler added 27 points in that win, and the two combined for 79 points.

Ultimately, the Grizzlies aren’t a bad defense. They’ve limited teams to a 53.5% effective field goal percentage. However, once Curry and Butler catch fire, no defense can stop those two. Plus, Memphis ranks 25th in free-throw rate defensively and 19th in offensive rebounding percentage on defense. The Warriors should be able to take advantage of those two areas.

On the other hand, Memphis has added 118.3 points per 100 possessions. That’s all good. However, the Grizzlies rank 24th in turnover percentage. Since Golden State has added 15.8% of turnovers on defense, it’s very likely the Warriors will win the turnover battle in this game as well.

Therefore, I’m betting on Warriors -7.

Buddy Hield Over 8.5 Points (-105)

The “Points boa” system has earned a 10.3% return on investment (ROI) over its last 5,264 bets. It’s also added a 59% win percentage with a profit of 542 units. Ultimately, this system looks for players to go over in points. To qualify, a player must have hit the over in at least three of the last five games and have a cost of -130 to -101.

Buddy Hield of the Warriors has scored at least nine points in 56% of games this season. He’s also added at least nine points in three of his last five games and has had previous success against the Grizzlies over the last few years. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies rank 23rd in the NBA in points allowed to shooting guards. Hield has a solid matchup. A couple of threes and some foul shots would do the trick.

Back Hield to score at least nine points tonight.

Vince Williams Jr. Under 4.5 Rebounds (-160)

The “Rebounds 0 or 1 last 5” system has earned a 20.9% ROI over its last 2,360 bets. It’s also won 67.2% of the time and has added more than 493 units of profit over the last year.

To qualify for this system, a player must have hit the over in rebounds no more than once over the last five games.

Vince Williams Jr. has added at least five rebounds in just one of his last five games. He’s also earned at least five rebounds in only two of his last 10 games. In addition, he’s hit at least five rebounds in just 26% of games this season.

It won’t be any easier against the Warriors, who rank seventh in the NBA in rebounds allowed to shooting guards this season. Therefore, Williams going under 4.5 rebounds looks like a really good play using this system.

-Jason Radowitz

Desmond Bane Over 2.5 Three-Pointers Made (-128)

The “3made” system has added a 12.1% ROI over its last 2,827 bets. It’s also won 64.5% of the time. It’s essentially won more than 340 units of profit during that stretch.

Ultimately, this system looks for players to go over in the three-point market. But to fit the system, the player must have hit the over in at least three of the last five games and six of the previous 10 games. Plus, the player has to have a cost of -275 to +554 on the over in the three-point market to qualify.

Desmond Bane of the Memphis Grizzlies has earned at least three three-pointers in four of his last five games. He’s also added at least three three-pointers in four consecutive games. That said, he’ll battle a Warriors team ranked 16th in the NBA in three-pointers allowed to shooting guards this season.

Bane has been consistent throughout the season, but he’s red-hot right now. Let’s take advantage and back Bane to add at least three three-pointers in today’s NBA Play-In Tournament game.

First-Basket Scorer: Desmond Bane (+700)

Tuesday's late-night matchup features the No. 7 seed vs. No. 8 seed NBA Play-In Tournament game in the Western Conference between the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors. We have multiple trends and stats pointing to one of these particular teams scoring first.

The Grizzlies boasted a 70.7% win rate on opening tip-offs during the regular season, the second-best mark in the NBA. Rookie center Zach Edey gives Memphis a great chance at securing the first possession with his 7-foot-4, 305-pound frame. The Grizzlies also scored the first basket in 56.1% of games this year (fourth-best).

Meanwhile, the Warriors had just a 42.7% win rate on opening tips this season. They also scored the first basket 45.1% of the time. These are both below-average rates relative to the rest of the league. Much of that has to do with Golden State rolling out a small-ball lineup with Draymond Green at center.

On that note, Edey has a massive size advantage over Green for the opening tip. Green is giving up about eight inches to Edey head-to-head. Notably, that didn't matter when Memphis and Golden State faced off earlier this month, as Green won the tip over Edey and the Warriors scored first.

That likely won't happen a second time, though. The Grizzlies and Warriors faced each other four times in the regular season. Memphis won the opening tip and scored the first points in three of those four matchups.

As for Memphis, let's roll with Desmond Bane to score first. He leads the team in first shot percentage (23.2%), made first baskets (14) and first baskets per start (20.3%). Bane has also scored the first basket twice already against Golden State this season.

Moses Moody More Than 1.5 Made Three-Pointers

When it comes to three-point defense, the Grizzlies are average, at best. They rank 14th in opponent three-point field goal percentage, but they're just 21st in the league in three-pointers allowed per game. Moses Moody has already cleared this number in all three of his games against the Grizzlies this season, so this is a gift from PrizePicks.

Moody averaged 1.7 made threes in the regular season, and he went 7-of-13 from deep against the Grizzlies. Though this is the postseason, the Grizzlies and Warriors are still likely to light up the scoreboard. Moody has had no trouble getting shots up even when other Warriors are hot.

Steph Curry 30+ Points (+105)

Steph Curry has been hit or miss against the Grizzlies this season, but he's on fire entering the postseason. Curry ended the year averaging 24.5 points per game, but in April, he averaged 29.1 points per game in eight contests. He scored at least 30 points in five of those eight games, and he dropped an incredible 52 against the Grizzlies on the first of the month.

Could the Grizzlies shut Curry down like they did twice earlier this season? Absolutely. On December 19th, Curry scored just two points, and he failed to make any of the six shots he attempted. But that game was a long time ago, and Curry is shooting lights out right now. In his last game against the Grizzlies, he made 12 of his 20 attempts from beyond the arc. The Grizzlies are allowing 116.9 points per game, so take advantage of this price and look for Curry to have a huge night at home.

Jimmy Butler 8+ Assists (+145)

There are player props more likely to hit on Tuesday, but the price for this prop makes this one of the best plays of the night. Jimmy Butler is averaging just 5.4 assists per game this season, but he's entering the postseason with at least seven assists in his last three games. In the season finale, Butler dished out nine assists in 48 minutes against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Butler has only faced the Grizzlies once this season, dishing out only four assists in that game. However, he also scored 27 in that contest, his third-highest-scoring game since joining the Warriors. On Tuesday, I expect him to continue to look for his teammates like he did down the stretch, as he exploits a defense allowing 26.9 assists per game. Taking Butler to record seven assists is more likely, but the price is expensive. Therefore, I'll add the extra assist at this price in what I expect to be a high-scoring game.

Golden State Warriors vs. Memphis Grizzlies Same-Game Parlay

Historically, this is an abysmal matchup for the Grizzlies. The last time Memphis was victorious in Golden State was in 2021. The Grizzlies are shooting 42.8% from the field and 30% from beyond the arc over that span.
Golden State has won the last nine contests when facing Memphis at home. These two teams matched up twice in the Bay Area this season, with the Warriors winning by an average of 6.5 points. Golden State has won five out of their last six contests against Memphis and were 3-1 on the season.
The Warriors are averaging 119.6 over their last 10 contests while shooting 46.4% from the field and 37.7% from beyond the perimeter. Golden State has scored at least 119 points in five of the last 10 contests, including 134 against Memphis when these two teams last met on April 1st.
Golden State has exceeded 118.5 points in the previous five games at home when playing Memphis. The Grizzlies have allowed an average of 119.6 points over their last 10 contests when on the road against the Warriors.
The 111.5 total for Memphis simply appears to be too low in what should be a fantastic matchup, with a torrid pace, to kick off the Western Conference NBA Play-In Tournament. Memphis is averaging almost 117 points over its last 10 contests while shooting 46.8% as a team.
The Grizzlies have surpassed 111.5 points in three of their previous four games. Memphis has cleared 111.5 in all but one of their last 10 matchups against Golden State. The Grizzlies are averaging 121.7 points over that span.
If "Playoff Jimmy" was ever a thing, there's a good chance we are going to see that version of Jimmy Butler this evening against Memphis. The Warriors decided to acquire Butler to catapult the team to playoff success. And here we are...
Butler has been cooking lately, averaging 27.3 points, 7.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds in his last three games, on a razor-sharp 60.8% shooting from the field. We wouldn't fault you at all for taking a points + assists combo prop or a points + assists + rebounds combo prop. You could also easily make a case for taking the points and assists props individually.
We feel it's best to play it safe with this straightforward selection, where we only need Butler to make one three-pointer. The veteran has connected on at least one three-pointer in six out of his last eight games while shooting 50% from beyond the arc. The Grizzlies ended the season ranked 21st in three-pointers made by the opposition, allowing over 14 baskets from beyond the arc per game.
