Overview

Jones will once again try to do something that Manning didn't do very often this weekend, which is to win a game at home. New York has won just four of its last 15 games at MetLife Stadium overall. However, with Jones coming off a brilliant debut there is more reason for optimism than there has been in some time for Giants’ fans. Of course, New York's defense will need to hold up its end of the bargain. Also, it will be on running back Wayne Gallman to step up and help ease the load after Saquon Barkley was sidelined with an ankle injury.

On the other side of the football, there isn't much that has gone right for Washington through the first three weeks of the season. The Redskins have been outscored by a combined score of 94-63 in their three straight losses. Monday Night Football was a particularly embarrassing affair as they made Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky look like the second coming of Tom Brady. They had five turnovers and looked like a disjointed group in a game where they were trailing 28-3 at the half.

While fans have been clamoring for rookie Dwayne Haskins to make his debut, it's hard to ignore the potential downside of putting him in a spot where he doesn't have much help around him. At the same time, that is exactly what the Giants did and it worked out for them in Jones' debut. This franchise needs a shot in the arm. They could get it this week as Jones is still a rookie who is playing without Barkley, and the Giants’ defense has not been good by many metrics this season.

I actually expect the Redskins to be more competitive in this game than most people think. For the first time in a while, they should be able to run the ball and have a bit of balance on offense. Tampa Bay, who is a bad rushing team, actually had 144 yards on 32 carries last week. However, it's such a small spread and it's a short week for Washington. Their franchise is beaten down while the Giants are invigorated. If we had to lay more here, I'd probably take the points. At a field goal or less, I like the Giants to win and cover.
