MLB Best Over/Under Bet

Atlanta Braves (-235vs. Oakland Athletics (+194)| O/U 9.5 (+100/-122)

The Oakland Athletics took advantage of Atlanta Braves righty Mike Soroka’s first start since August 2020 in the series opener, scoring seven runs, which was their highest scoring output since putting nine runs on the board on May 16. Now the A’s are in their better-hitting split when facing southpaw Jared Schuster, as they rank just outside the league’s top half in OPS against left-handed pitching.

Conversely, Oakland clearly does not have the most confidence in James Kaprielian, demoting him to the bullpen for a short stint after he pitched to a 12.15 ERA through three starts. Kaprielian has done well to limit the damage to a 4.24 ERA in three May starts despite facing the Houston Astros twice and the Texas Rangers. However, a Braves offense that ranks in the top two in the majors in wRC+ and OPS should have his number.

The A’s are just 1-22 in day games this season, which has us projecting them to allow a number of runs. The Over is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings between these teams and is 4-1-1 in Atlanta’s last six interleague road games. Expect a high-scoring affair on getaway day today.

Pick: Over (+100)

MLB Best Same Game Parlay

Tampa Bay Rays at Chicago Cubs

The Rays have scored a combined one run across their first two games of the series against the Cubs, and despite their overall “struggles” on the road, they still have the best wRC+ among road teams in the game. They also have the league’s best wRC+ against lefties at 166. While Justin Steele has been fantastic most of this season, he was hit hard in his last start. This all matches up extremely well for the Rays’ offense, and they should have a bounce-back offensive day. On the other side, Zach Eflin throws again, and he has been a revelation for the Rays. The walk numbers are excellent, and while he has a bit of a HR issue, the pairing with low walks has been able to help him keep the run totals low and the Cubs’ offense off the board.

Paredes has been fantastic in 2023, and while his career numbers lean in favor of him versus lefties, he’s been better against right-handers in 2023. However, he still has been excellent, with a 123 wRC+ against lefties. His power isn’t as impressive as it has been in the past, but he is hitting for a high average, and this should all line up well for his ability to reach the two TB number.

PGA Best Bets: 2023 the Memorial Tournament

Jon Rahm (Outright +700 [2u]; Top-5 +175 [1u])

Jack’s Place is just perfectly designed for a player of Jon Rahm’s style and caliber. Rahm is stellar off the tee and on approach, with a towering left-to-right shot shape. The Spaniard finished tied for 10th here last year. You might remember his deluge of birdies and five-shot cushion after 54 holes in 2021, only to be forced to withdraw because of a positive COVID-19 test. He, of course, won the event by three shots in 2020. I am supremely confident that Rahm will dominate Muirfield Village once again, so my slip reflects that wholeheartedly.
