Primetime Matchups
The NFL kicks off its 100th season in Chicago this year in what will be the 199th meeting between the Bears and Packers. The league opted for history over recent tradition, as the defending Super Bowl champs will not host the league’s opener. Still, the Patriots did secure another primetime spot, hosting the Steelers Sunday night. Once again we’ll get a pair of Monday Night Football games to kick off the new year. The first figures to be much more entertaining than the second — despite the Saints opening as larger than a TD favorite at home against the Texans. The late-night MNF game will include the Broncos and Raiders in what has opened as essentially a pick’em on a neutral field with Oakland listed as a three-point home favorite.

Road Favorites
The season opens with a trio of road favorites in Week 1. Baltimore will travel to Miami and give 3.5 points, Jacksonville sits as a 4.5-point home underdog against the high-octane Chiefs, and the Rams give the Panthers three points in Carolina.

Early Shootouts
There are four games that open with a projected point total of 50 or more. While Kansas City and Jacksonville both showed flashes of solid play defensively last season, the oddsmakers feel that the newly-signed Nick Foles and the Jags will be in a shootout with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. It’s not surprising to see the Rams and Panthers check in at over 50 projected points, and few would be surprised if the Patriots and Steelers surpass 60 combined points scored, much less 50. However, the biggest barn burner of them all is expected to be in New Orleans on Monday night where the projected total opens at 54 between the Texans and Saints.
