WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational Picks (PGA Betting)

It wasn’t the Irishman we all thought it would be lifting the Claret Jug trophy, but it was a well-deserved win by Shane Lowry at the British Open. Lowry shot an incredible 63 on Saturday to help him win the title by seven strokes over Tommy Fleetwood. Betting favorite Rory McIlroy was unable to overcome a horrendous first round of 78 to make the weekend. He will have a chance to turn things around at the upcoming WGC St. Jude Invitational in Memphis this week. This will be another super-strong field with almost all top-50 ranked golfers in the world attending.

Course Preview

This event will be played in TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. It is a par-70 course that measures at 7,237 yards long. The greens are bermuda, and it not a very difficult track for golfers. Ranking 11/51 in course difficulty last year, expect to see lots of birdies. Driving accuracy will be key this week with plenty of water hazards. In fact, this course has absorbed the most “water balls” in PGA history since 2004.

Best Bets

Matt Kuchar (33/1 on William Hill Sportsbook)
This is a really solid number for the No. 2 ranked golfer in FedEx Cup points this year on Tour. He is a model of consistency who has all the skills necessary to win a WGC at TPC Southwind this week. Kuchar possesses a lethal combination of driving accuracy (18th in the PGA) and ability to hit greens (fifth in GIR). His accurate approach game (10th in the PGA) will help him avoid the water hazards and set himself up for many birdies putts (29th in putting).

Chez Reavie (50/1 on William Hill Sportsbook)
Chez has one of the best course histories at TPC Southwind. He finished sixth at the FedEx St. Jude in 2018 and fourth in 2017. The second-most accurate driver on Tour, it is no wonder Reavie finds success at this golf course. Winning the Travelers Championship in June will be key for Chez to keep his foot on the pedal in such a strong field event.

Matthew Fitzpatrick (50/1 on William Hill Sportsbook)
Fitzpatrick seems super close to his first big PGA win. The talented Englishman has finished top 25 in three of the four Majors this year. Sneakily ranking 27th in the PGA this year in strokes gained: tee-to-green, Fitzpatrick has the all-around game to win a big event like the WGC. Known for his driving accuracy, this course shouldn’t cause him too much trouble.
