What is a Double Result Bet?

A double result bet is when you wager on two possible outcomes for one event. This type of wager is like a two-leg same game parlay, as both need to hit for the bet to be graded a winner.

Double result betting is most common in the NBA as you can bet on the first-half and second-half outcomes. Let’s walk through an example below.

Say the Charlotte Hornets are on the road facing the Milwaukee Bucks and the Bucks are big favorites (-10). Now, you think that the Bucks will control this game from beginning to end, but you are nervous about laying 10 points in case the Hornets get a back-door cover.

Instead of taking Bucks -10, you can bet a double result that the Bucks win both the first half and the second half. This is a much more probable outcome based on the spread, and you would need to lay around (-275) in juice to take that wager.

The reason the probability is more in the favor of a Bucks double result is that they could win each half by only a point and then miss the cover by eight points as they would only win by two points. Notice that the Bucks need to win each half, so in a double result bet, the score essentially resets at halftime and they will need to win the second half by at least one point as well.

What if the first half is a tie? Well, you can actually bet on that, so in this specific example, a Bucks double result would automatically be a loss if the first half ends at a tie.

If you want long-shot odds, then you can usually bet on a tie in the first half and Bucks to win the second half at odds around 25/1. The same is true for the underdog.

If you want to bet the Hornets to win both halves, then a Hornets double result will pay around 6/1 as a 10-point underdog. Finally, say you think that the Hornets will come out strong and win the first half, but the Bucks will eventually overpower them and win the second half. The odds for such a situation usually pay around 4/1 in a game with a 10-point spread.

Double result bets are also available in sports such as soccer and football and are primarily used in events that have two halves.
