Every season wide receivers jump onto the scene seemingly out of nowhere. Sometimes it’s because of a trade to a new team, sometimes it’s because of a new quarterback, or sometimes it’s because they became the number two or three receiver and were getting favorable matchups all season long.

DraftKings currently has a bet available for a receiver who jumped onto the scene last year despite none of the above factors being true. In fact, he’s someone who saw himself pushed to the number one role, saw a quarterback go down with an injury halfway through the season, and yet still managed to have the best season of his career. Let’s take a look at Detroit Lions’ wideout Kenny Golladay’s season total for receiving yards.

Will Kenny Golladay Go Over/Under 1,000.5 Receiving Yards?

Kenny Golladay enters his fourth year in Detroit and the expectations are as high as they have ever been for the young and talented receiver. Last season he went for 1,190 yards and 11 touchdowns, impressive numbers especially when you consider he put them up without quarterback Matthew Stafford under center in the final eight games of the season. This year, he gets Stafford back, and the two will look to lead the Lions offense in a wide-open NFC North.

While Golladay certainly garnered a lot of attention last season, it was actually his second straight year going over 1,000 yards. In 2018, the 6’4” receiver hauled in 70 catches for 1,063 yards, a huge improvement over his 477-yard rookie campaign. One thing has remained consistent throughout Golladay’s young career: he’s a big-play threat. A lot of this has to do with the fact that the Lions love to use their running backs in the receiving game which draws in the secondary and leaves the field open for Golladay to work.

However, despite the career season last year, Golladay only hauled in 65 passes. That’s a troubling number for a receiver looking to put up big numbers for a third straight season. In 2019, Golladay finished seventh in the league in yards but was 41st in the league in receptions. Stefon Diggs who was 17th in the league in receiving yards is the only wide receiver in the top 20 who finished with fewer receptions than Golladay.

In 2020, Golladay will once again be the number one guy in Detroit, and with Stafford back he should see his targets skyrocket. Another thing working in his favor is that the Lions offense has plenty of weapons to work alongside him. Marvin Jones, Danny Amendola, TJ Hockenson, and the newly acquired Geronimo Allison, should cause matchup problems for defenses all season long.

While there is concern that all these weapons could lead to Golladay actually getting fewer receptions this season, the fact remains that he has proven in the last two seasons that he doesn’t need many receptions in order to rack up big yardage.

This number opened near 1,200 and has been steadily dropping for the better part of a month now. But the truth is, it shouldn’t be. Golladay could solidify himself as one of the top receivers in the league this season. With Stafford back, he’s going to do just that.

The Pick: Kenny Golladay over 1000.5 receiving yards (-110)
