Of their 11 games, the Sparks recorded the first basket in four, three at home and one on the road. One of those home games, however, was vs. the Lynx (Dearica Hamby got the scoring started with a free throw). The last time they faced was on June 1. It is worth noting that Dearica Hamby recorded the team's first basket in five of the other seven games they've played (Azura Stevens got the other two).
While Minnesota has started the season 9-1, it is not because they tend to score first. They have scored first only twice (Courtney Williams and Kayla McBride). Until Minnesota starts to make the first basket, I'm not going to give them a second thought. But Hamby, while she has done so just once, she is always around the ball. She missed the first shot a couple of times and assisted on several first baskets. Hamby takes a relatively high number of shots (12.7/game) and makes over half of them (52.1%).
