Sunday's Best WNBA First Basket Scorer Bets

 (Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

New York Liberty vs. Atlanta Dream

Jonquel Jones has scored the First Basket in 7-of-45 (15.6%) games this season. Jones has been a relative First Baskets machine this season, and a 15.6% cash rate on a prop with this much variance is superb.
New York has won the tip 58.7% of the time, and Jones took the first shot in 11.1% of her starts. Against a tough Atlanta squad, the Liberty will want to get Jones going early. JJ cashed this prop in Game 1 of the First Round against Minnesota, so New York has been looking to the 2024 Finals MVP early of late.
For what it’s worth, Jones’ teammate Pauline Astier scored first for New York in each of the last two meetings between these teams, while cashing this prop in one of them. Aster is offering a return of +1320, so she is definitely worth a sprinkle at that number.
Pick: Jonquel Jones (+520) & Pauline Astier (+1320)

Las Vegas Aces vs. Golden State Valkyries

A’ja Wilson has scored the First Basket in 8-of-44 (18.2%) games this season. Wilson’s eight First Baskets trailed only Shakira Austin (11) and Paige Bueckers (9) in the WNBA this season. Wilson also takes the first shot just 9.1% of the time and still sank eight.
In the three games between these two teams this season, Wilson scored the First Basket on June 21, the most recent matchup, and scored first for Vegas in two of the three. Las Vegas has scored 26 team first baskets this season, and A’ja has accounted for 30.8% of them.
Back the GOAT this afternoon against a gassed Walks squad in Valhalla.
Fun fact: A’ja Wilson’s dad, Roscoe, is a huge Dan Fan and named her after Steely Dan’s 1977 album/song “Aja.”
Double helix in the sky tonight, throw out the hardware, let’s do it right, A’ja, when all my dime dancin’ is through, I run to you.
Pick: A’ja Wilson (+342)
