WNBA Odds, Picks & Predictions: Thursday (5/29)
We've got two WNBA games on deck tonight featuring the defending champs, the No. 1 pick from the 2025 NBA Draft, an expansion team and one of the two remaining winless teams.
With such a field, there are plenty of good betting options. But what are the best WNBA bets?
I've researched both games thoroughly and have come up with my best WNBA bets for Thursday, May 29th.
Thursday’s Best WNBA Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Golden State Valkyries (+18) vs. New York Liberty (-2400) | O/U 163 (-112/-108)
It is natural for a team not to take an opponent seriously days after destroying them. However, the key is maintaining a competitive edge. New York does not tend to do that. Last season, when they played teams in consecutive games, they often came out flat in the second one. Could Golden State pull out an upset win?
Of course not. New York has more than enough talent to beat the Valkyries on their worst day. I wouldn't be shocked if the Valkyries led at the half, but New York will win by 15 in the end.
Breanna Stewart is not going to score 20+ points in this game like she did on Tuesday. Not because Golden State is going to play better defense, but more because I think she'll get off to a slow start and score in the single digits in the first half. She'll come alive in the second half, though. It may not happen until the fourth quarter, but she will score more than 18.5 points.
Pick: Golden State +18 (-108)
Prop: Breanna Stewart Over 18.5 Points (-106)
Dallas Wings (-1.5) vs. Chicago Sky (+105) | O/U 171 (-108/-112)
How do you pick a winner between two bad teams that can't play defense? You don't. Instead, you take the over. Dallas is averaging 84 points per game this season, and they're coming off a 109-point night against a dreadful Connecticut defense. As for Chicago, their defense has given up 90+ points in every game. While their offense started with an awful 58-point performance in the opener, it improved with each passing game.
It's still far from good, but when playing a team that allows 88+ points a night, anyone can look good. The only question mark, of course, is whether the offenses are good enough to take advantage of the other’s lackluster defense.
Angel Reese is averaging 14 rebounds per game this season, pulling down 17 in her first game, 15 in her last game and two 12-rebound games in between. These two teams attempt the most shots per game than anyone (Sky: 72, Wings: 71.6). Chicago is shooting just 39.2% from the field, while Dallas is at 42.7%. That equates to quite a few rebounding opportunities.
Kamilla Cardoso got off to a slow start on the scoreboard this season with seven and six points in her first two games. However, she then scored 12 and 16 in her last two games. The difference? Chicago's first two opponents were two of the top defensive squads in the league. But the last two were not strong defensive teams.
With the Sky getting a real chance to win their first game tonight, I expect to see big nights from a few Chicago players.
Pick: Over 171 Points (-108)
Props: Angel Reese Over 12.5 Rebounds (-130) & Kamilla Cardoso Over 10.5 Points (+100)
