Atlanta Dream at Washington Mystics
The night's WNBA action gets started off in one of the most intriguing matchups of the weekend. The Atlanta Dream look to continue their hot season with a trip to Washington to take on the scorching Mystics. Washington has won five straight games, including wins over Golden State, Las Vegas, and Dallas twice. The Mystic's brand of basketball that helped them turn the corner has been based on the offensive end.
In the last five games, Washington has scored 91.8 PPG which is more than 10 points greater than their scoring average during the regular season. They'll go up against an Atlanta team that ranks in the top four of defense by DRtg but they've been prone to giving up high scoring outputs. Six of their last eight games have resulted in their opponent going over their season average points against.
However, this is a bad matchup for Washington. They turn the ball over at the highest rate in the league while Atlanta has the highest defensive turnover rate. Washington is going to find it very difficult to get shots up against this Dream defense even though they give up a league worst eFG%.
The books are expecting this to be a high scoring affair based on recent trends, but the matchup looks like it'll be a bit more of a low scoring game. I like Atlanta to win comfortably and hold Washington to a total that is more typical to what they've shown all season.

Phoenix Mercury at Connecticut Sun
After a run to the WNBA Finals last year, the Mercury have fallen back down to earth in 2026. That's a big reason why they decided to shake things up and bring in Kelsey Plum in a trade last week. Her first game for Phoenix was more of the same, a 96-82 loss to the Atlanta Dream. This is hardly surprising as Atlanta is one of the best teams in the league, especially on the defensive side.
Phoenix should have a lot more success Friday against Connecticut who has been struggling mightily. The Sun are losers of five straight and the games haven't been particularly close. The Sun have failed to cover in all five games, dropping their season record to 14-16 overall.
The Sun have the league's worst offense, measured by ORtg, and are a poor shooting team. Their eFG% is the lowest in the league and they struggle to keep up scoring with any competent offense. Despite some of the numbers, Phoenix is a competent offense. Adding Plum into the rotation will only make it more potent. This is a great opportunity for the Mercury to get their first win after the trade against a team that is reeling.
